Active Protection System (APS) for tanks
Reta replied to asaf's topic in Ballistics Science Discussion
Firstly, great post. Secondly, regarding overfly ATGMs - how high they can go relative to the tank? IIRC Those missiles carry EFP charges rather than HEAT charges and if I remeber correctly EFPs can be usually set-off at greater ranges than HEAT warheads. So if TOW-2B for example flies 1 meter higher it's probably inside the killng zone of the arena-m, But is it true for an height of 4 meters as well? That the interesting question. Another thing is the senors, I gather both arena version use an RF senosr suite (aka radar), we know that the two prominent western APS systems which are trophy and iron fist are based on AESA radars (lately even intergrated with EO sensors). Do we know how modern Arena-M's sensor suite is? I guess there's a reason for the other systems to go as modern as they can get. -
StuG III Thread (and also other German vehicles I guess)

Are you familiar with Lincoln's famous phrase which ends with "but you cannot fool all the people all the time"? Cause I don't think elbit are doing that. 8 or so different platforms for iron fist says otherwise -
Non-exploding infantry hardware thread.

Pretty sure this belongs here (is man portable hardware and doesn't explode)- ESG was commissioned by the German Armed Forces (BAAINBw) as general contractor for the production and delivery of a total of 69 mobile radar systems for the BARU project (ground-based reconnaissance and air space surveillance system. This radar system was designed by IAI-ELTA (sub contractor to ESG). -
Well yeah like you said we have yet to see a true large scale pear 2 pear fight involving UAV operations against modern EW, air defence and of course a capable airforce. In that case I doubt we'll see the same kind of incidents we saw in NK, syria or north africa, and MALE sized drones or above (essentially airstrip based) would probably be kept at a standoff from threats if they would even survive. And yet I think there's still merit to have that capability in your toolbox, intelligence gathering wise, and poland might still need that armed capability for low-intensity operations especially as a NATO member

I'd say it's simply an attractive platform, a combat proven armed drone that is being pushed by fellow NATO ally turkey without exporting issues like the american and israeli drones (the latter never exported an armed drone which is not a LM iirc) and isn't as expensive. The other options are chinese, or russian...

Do we know if it's an otc turret or something new? If it's a rafael turret, I'm only familiar with the samson 30mm. In that case, it might also open the possibility for quicker APS integration as that turret can be integrated with trophy. -
Old video, trailer's wheels exploded or caught fire. Unrelated to recent events...

Active Protection System (APS) for tanks

I wager the meaning of hybrid module is that it comes with extra passive\reactive armour kit in addition to the APS. ERA or composites? -
So KF41 got 6 dismounts and Redback 8? Won't That make quite a difference TOE wise?

LMAO that dude sure likes my comments, that's the second time that happens (the first was my comment here about the merkava model 4 400 or something) -
Interestingly also shows a slow-mo full reload of an interceptor charge.

Leopard 2A7A1 with Trophy APS. Credits to Krauss-Maffei Wegmann for the image: Definitely the best looking trophy integration by now. -
Turbojet powered Spice 250 ER showcased in Aero India 2021. "A conservatively stated range of at least 150km" via janes Also lots of mumbo jumbo about AI.

From the Hanwha Redback vid, notice the elevation angle of the Iron Fist interceptor. First time seeing it that high: -
The latest iteration of Merkava is called Mark 4 Model 400, which has a newer C2 system and enchaned TROPHY (you can tell by the added optical sensor). kinda interesting because although MK 4 had seen many modifications and improvements throughout the years this is IMO the first time that the IDF officially names a new Mark 4 version https://www.idf.il/אתרים/חטיבה-188/2020/טנק-סימן-4-חטיבה-188/

He is using the helmet to control the turret\weapon station. The all point of this system is to integrate the traditional FCS sensors into a HMD. I don't understand why this frustrates you guys so much.
