I find it interesting that you're making a moral argument here. Also: if the rust belt would rebel, then doesn't this beg the question as to why high-population areas currently being screwed under EC aren't?

I am pretty much a utilitarian. So cue arguments about what the correct measure of utility is.

In terms of EC, from the outside it seems pretty dof. Because cities aren't just where your population is at, it's also where your economic activity is at. If you want to use the electoral process to try to guide policy in favour of economic growth, then you should have proportional representation to favour city policies.

And if you view elections as a way to placate the populace towards the leadership caste they were going to get anyway, then 'one man, one vote' is the simpler concept to explain.

How does the EC ensure that politicians pay attention to low population density areas?  They pay attention to a handful of swing states, most of which are fairly heavily populated.  Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio are not low population states.

I think there is a very good, practical reason for scrapping the EC.  When elections are given to the candidate with fewer votes, it means they come into office with more than half the voters opposed to them, as well as feeling ripped off.  It undermines peoples belief that the system is fair, particularly when there is no positive benefit to the EC.

FO3 and 4 are why I think, for the good of the world, the Fallout license needs to be confiscated from Bethesda and given to Obsidian.

If I were DNC Chair, any party member who mentioned Hillary running again and didn't immediately start laughing would be publicly broken on the rack, as an example to the others. Only comparably bad candidates in the party would be Reid, Pelosi, or *shudder* Dianne Feinstein.

The shooter mechanics are solid, but it's a terrible RPG. A Fallout 4 with writing and plot on the level of Fallout New Vegas would be fantastic, but that's no surprise, Bethesda have always been shitty writers, especially compared to Obsidian.

Here at Sturgeon's House, it is our raison d'etre to bust the myth of Teutonic superiority surrounding German military equipment, industry, structure and strategy in World War 2 and beyond. As such, it surprised me that we didn't already have a thread devoted specifically to Nazi aviation.
    Until now.
For the time being, I intend to keep this introduction very short with only a short editorial on how it has always amazed me that Nazi Germany, with such a head start in terms of military spending prior to the start of hostilities, and with the entire resources of Europe at its disposal, lagged not only behind the United States in aircraft production and quality but also the island nation of Great Britain which spent the first third of the war under a U-boat blockade as well as the Soviet Union which either outright lost or had to move the preponderance of its factories, workers and manufacturing equipment.
That is until one actually looks at how German industry worked.
This silent film shows the production of the Messerschmidt Bf 108 "Taifun", built in Bavaria, in the 1930s. And while Germany had not ratcheted up to wartime production and presumably more efficient manufacturing shortcuts were eventually adopted, there is little reason to doubt that the basic manufacturing techniques portrayed in this film were still used throughout the war.
In the film you'll see the lack of a modern production line. Airplanes and their parts were built in place, often from the ground up. You'll see workers lazily wandering back and forth between parts bins as they lovingly, handcrafted these machines, fitting each part into place. Presumably skilled workers will finish installing a part and then stop what they are doing in order to physically pick up a part of the airplane in order to move it to another work station.
At the 1:20 mark, a worker uses a standard bandsaw to cut a part, using his Mark 1 eyeball as the only calibration instead of having a jig in place to make the cut.
At the 2:00 mark, superior Teutonic craftsman use sledgehammers of the like wielded by Thor himself to pound sheet metal body panels into shape.
Workers stoop and fetch pieces of sheet metal and push them on handcarts around the factory. Elsewhere, you'll see the same worker stop one project at a work station to jump to the next in order to accomplish a different task. Everywhere you see waste, inefficiency and sloth. The Bavarian Aircraft Factory more resembles a community college metal shop class than a plant meant to supply war machinery to the most powerful military on the planet at that time.
All in all, it is a wonder that the Germans were able to build as many planes as they did if this news footage is any indication of their manufacturing prowess.

That is disappointing.  The rebels need to stand up for their ideals!  This is not the time to compromise with people who have betrayed the soul of the uprising!  They need to fight!  They need to kill!  Each other!

    1) Without Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, or Afghanistan on the list, it cannot be a serious measure against terrorism, and is thus entirely pointless.

    2)
Do you have any idea at all how much broader the list should be in that case?

Why only those countries? Why not Egypt? Where did the terrorists who conducted 9/11 come from? Why are Chechens allowed in?

I'm fairly sure there's been only one terrorist attack (the recent OSU stabbing attack) on American soil that's perpetrator was a national of one of the 7 nations that were included in the ban.

The lack of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, to me, shows that the ban isn't serious in fighting terrorism and is more of a pandering move towards his base.

This is a good read.  As always, Seymour Hersh has an interesting take on things.

SEYMOUR HERSH BLASTS MEDIA FOR UNCRITICALLY PROMOTING RUSSIAN HACKING STORY

Hersh takes the media to task for uncritically accepting the conclusions from the US intelligence community regarding the Russian hacking story.  He also refers to Trump's treatment of the media as "straight out of national socialism."  So basically he manages to piss of just about everyone, which is probably the sign of a good investigative journalist.

Elections are lame, just distribute all the offices in the government in a random lottery to random Americans. It'll work out, trust me.

Yeah, and that can be applied to most states so why aren't EC type systems used at the state level? The arbitrary distinction doesn't make sense.

The issue is not that I should have to move someplace to make my vote to "count more." A vote should be the same regardless of where someone resides. One person, one vote. It's how we elect mayors, governors, congressmen, senators, etc. In fact president is the only office not elected by popular vote.

Again, why should a citizen who lives in California have their vote count less than someone in a swing State? The electoral college basically gerrymanders away the voice of Republican voters in California and democratic voters in Texas.

Yeah that was pretty pathetic on their reporting. Still if we're going to have an EC system, the dumbies in Florida are likely going to decide the election which is just as bad as having Californians decide it in a popular vote.
