Sherman Tank Site News Post 16: A few setbacks but some good content on the way. 
Well, the beginning of the year was looking good, then things on a work-related front went south, and I have not had as much time for the site. What time I had I was using on image improvements and had to cut back there due to some carpal tunnel syndrome issues.  I won’t bother you all with further personal stuff.
I’ve discovered the stash of Army Motors Magazines over at Radionerds, and have done a series of posts about them.

The right political establishment's support (along with some left support) for the drug war, which is the cause of most gun crimes, is, in my opinion, to blame for most of the violence we see. Crazed gunmen, wether politically active or not, are a statistical anomaly.  Maybe getting stoned would help a lot of those freaks out too? 
 
Sounds like there are structural problems in the capitalist-controlled silicon valley that is rewarding left-wing views in order to pander to a certain market over another. 
 
The only president that probably never got death threats was Old Tippecanoe because he had the sense to give himself pneumonia and die immediately after winning his election.

It's like you completely missed the point several people here have been trying to make, which is that painting an entire group with a broad brush based on the actions of a few extremists is dangerious and intellectually dishonest.  
 
Also,, it's very convenient for your arguement that you forget that death threats against the President went up 400% after Obama was elected. Again, there are idiots and extremists on either end of the spectrum.
 
 

Jeeps, it's not "slander" to report the facts.  Pence has consistently been opposed to legislation favored by the LGBT community throughout his career as a public servant and media personality.  Also, I have seen plenty of articles from the left saying that getting rid of Trump would not be much of a victory since he would just be replaced by Pence.  It's a pretty common concern amongst liberal circles actually.
 
I would would not minimize the Christian right's antipathy to gay folks to being just "a few weirdos in the woods."   The shift in acceptance of LGBT folks in my lifetime has been pretty amazing to witness.  I generally operate under the assumption that anything that has happened in my relatively short span on this planet could easily prove to be impermanent.  History is replete with examples of societies that became more "traditional" or religiously fundamentalist when things got tough.  
 
At the same time, I can certainly understand peoples frustration with the current state of leftish Identity politics and the proliferation of nonsensical acronyms to describe every minute variation of peoples sexual preferences and orientations.  

I'm too embarassed to post pictures of the 1/72 scale stuff I have built myself.  Mostly I buy the prebuilt platic or diecast stuff. 
 
When I was a kid, I had a collection of German tanks in 1/35 scale, all Tamiya kits.  I had various other kits in various scales, including all sorts of weird stuff my friend and I built out of spare parts. We made an entire army of made up vehicles to battle the German tanks.  Eventually, all the weird stuff got blown up when my friend and I came into the possesion of several packs of bottle rockets.  It was a glorious battle, plastic shards flying in ever direction.  The German stuff never got the bottle rocket treatment, I think it eventually got sold in a garage sale when I went off to college.

Everything is sharper and more defined with our info-boxes dumping stuff at us 24/7. 
 
I'm not arguing that the political climate is a bit different from the previous 30 years. I just feel as though context is crucial. 
 
I feel like half the time articles, journalists, talking heads, twitter feeds, etc are trying to convince me how close we are to a radical violent split akin to a civil war.
 
And the rest of the time I can't help but notice how small the loudest contingent is, and how large the moderate and delightfully tolerant contingent is.

Ok, you are right, Erick Erickson is an idiot.  Apparently he took to twitter to criticize the dinner plan Melania made for the State dinner with the President of France.  He said:
 
"I'd serve fried chicken and mashed potatoes with sweet potato pie for dessert. None of this unpronounceable froo-froo garbage."
 
I looked up the menu, the main course will be a rack of spring lamb with Carolina gold rice jambalaya. It's not all that hard to pronounce and not all that exotic.  And really, am I to believe that some beltway blogger is so darn down-homesy that he never eats at anything more exotic than a Bob Evans?  I smell some obvious fake "man of the people" posturing from this dude.  It's especially lame since one thing you can say about Trump is that he certainly is not a food snob.  There are so many legitimate things to criticize Trump on in my eyes, I am getting really tired of people focusing on the stupid meaningless stuff.
 
Also, a good rack of lamb dinner with some jambalaya sounds pretty good to me.  
 

Just last week I was talking to my dad about this engine.  His memory is crap these days but he still remembers work stuff pretty well.  Back in the 90's he was in France and got to see a demonstration of this engine.  He said it was awesome to see it go from 0 to 1500 HP in "2 seconds".  I don't know if that's the actual time it takes, but that's how he describes it.  For sake of reference, I asked him how long it takes an AVDS-1790 (M60 tank engine) to go from 0 to full power (750HP), he said 17 seconds.  Again, no idea if these figures are correct, but that's how he described it. 

This is an interesting quote.  I think it serves several purposes.  First, and most important, it reminds everyone, including all the people getting stink eye from the Mueller probe that Trump has the power to pardon.  Second, it reminds everyone that he is a cool guy who hangs out with cool celebrities like Sylvester Stallone.  Third, it's about pardoning a black guy who has been dead for 80 years, so it won't piss off the true deplorables all that much.
