    Oh hell yes.

I support mandatory body cams for cops 3000%.

Protects the cops, protects the people.  Any missing footage during a shift = automatic suspension until the cause is found. If it could be done technologically, I'd say it automatically flags footage or broadcasts to the station when a weapon is drawn.

Edit:  47% drop in use of force and 41% drop in complaints in San Diego.  31% drop in use of pepper spray.

I have already written four shitty fantasy novels. They are so bad, sturgis-man refuses to read them.
But I suspect that he secretly can't read...

A strong argument for mandatory cameras for cops.

I think there is room for positive discussion on it, but it is a VERY polarizing subject.  Again, I say that from a point of view from someone who may have to use force in their job and is trained to do so if needed.  But I'm also highly critical of abuse of power by the police.  Mainly because I am trained in the legal use of force model in use here in my province, and I understand when that has been exceeded.

Yep, always a good idea to make sure you have a proper supply of strategic materials before going to war.

I've read the only reason why these things exist is that the aircraft designers wanted to convince Goering and Hitler that they were important enough to be spared fro being sent to the frontlines.

Hoplites dealt with the issue by fighting on pretty flat land and/or poorly as best I can tell. I think by the time of the Macedonians they'd opened up the order a bit because they weren't bringing two spear walls up to each other but were instead using blocks of pike, but even then they came apart, and got savaged by the Romans. It's strongly suggested that Marathon was the first time Greek armies had done anything more than march at the enemy, and there's a school of thought that they ran to the limit of the Persian archers' effectiveness in broken ranks and then reformed to use their armor and formation to resist projectiles. Roman phalanxes fighting against Gauls did not do well at all because they tended to break up.

There is another massive difference between the Romans and the rest of that world. After the Servian reforms they had the foundation of the century system which meant they had that fantastically useful thing: an NCO corps providing solid junior leadership, both to sieze opportunities like breaks in formation and to stiffen their units by example.

Also it's very clearly known that late medieval/early modern pikes fought in looser formation because it's well documented that they stood in formation generally at about the distance where one guy could reach out fully and touch the shoulder of the guy next to him and because it's very clearly documented that when threatened the musketeers ran into the pike formation for shelter. This doesn't keep things like Alatriste from showing tercios bunched up pretty badly, even though the formations were under heavy artillery fire at Rocroi.

Belesarius reacted to Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect in Why heavier boolits are better: a thermodynamic view
I read this entire post, and the experimentalist in me feels victimized.

Since you're in thermo (join the club), you should also know that carnot cycles for anything only give a dimensionless efficiency value designating the maximum energy transfer rates, ignoring all other variables, at a set temperature (or pressure if you get wonky).

So, yes, a heavier bullet would, on paper, be more efficient with combustion.

But that efficiency gain is peanuts when compared with what crimping does to a cartridge. The difference in projectile mass on a small arms scale is negligible thermodynamically given your scenario.

Now, if you're putting together a potato cannon, we can get together and talk numbers. That's a much more interesting process, in terms of PdV etc etc. Plus it's something anyone can do!

I'm currently (in my off time that's not spent sending dirty pictures to Sturgeon) looking at building a PVC pipe gauss cannon.
