  1. A cornerstone has been placed in the Tziporit industrial park in Nazareth Illit, as the IDF plans to relocate MASHA 7000/7100 tank production and maintenance factory up north, and expand the compound to include the production of the new Eitan.
  2. US Army to procure BONUS munitions from BAE: https://www.shephardmedia.com/news/landwarfareintl/bae-systems-supply-bonus-precision-guided-munition/
  3. The good old fire detection system on an Achzarit.
  4. This is something close to the JLTV in its niche. Plenty of utility work that the M113 currently does where you dont need a 35 ton Eitan.
  5. Stunner fitting inside the launcher of the PAC-3MSE, even with its booster. It could be a pretty serious upgrade to the Patriot system.
  6. Here: https://news.walla.co.il/item/2855741 And minor correction: 12 tons. This stands in line with the Gideon plan that says it pretty blatantly that due to budgetary constraints, the spearheading troops will get the best available gear while the lighter supporting formations will get the cheaper stuff. A 12 ton MRAP is cheap. Definitely cheaper than an Eitan or a Namer. The IDF cannot afford making thousands of Namers.
  7. Dude says it's 2RI, not PL. It's also noticeable that it cannot be the PL because the PL only features turret applique, while the hull armor remains unchanged. These are very clearly equipped with hull applique.
  8. Not necessarily, but the Iron Fist project was developed for the IDF, and any derivative may have been developed for export, though not necessarily. The IDF showed interest in procuring lighter iterations of existing APS, but was unable to do so because of a lack of fund. As of the end of 2017, Rafael is contracted to provide 1,000 systems until 2027 for frontline vehicles only, which is MBTs, APCs, IFVs, CEVs, and that doesn't leave much for the lighter vehicles. It is however very possible that the IDF will pursue some form of APS for its new, barely talked about 8-ton APCs, if it will deem it favorable over autonomous recon vehicles.
  9. This is old news. Several months old, and I posted about this in this thread when it was reported. There are several things many forget when looking at Israel's MIC's products. Everything that is made by state-owned companies - Rafael, IMI (which will soon be privatized), and IAI, is developed first and foremost for the IDF, and only later is modified for export. 2nd to remember is that the Iron Fist was tested for every platform that now has the Trophy. This includes the Namer. In the future, the Iron Fist Heavy will be the basis for a future APS to go on every platform considered heavy past 2020. But it will not be related to the IF-LD, so I give it very low chances of being selected for the Eitan.
  10. Especially designed platforms are more expensive and miss the whole point of expendability. What you're looking at here is not just a modified skid loader. That was an older variant meant for tight urban areas where the autonomous 65-ton D9 wouldn't pass. The new version is based on the IAI's Robattle, a modular autonomous UGV for all sorts of missions. This makes it cheaper, which makes the whole concept of UGVs more viable. You can see it in a more typical dressing here: And completely naked here: I also wouldn't call it 'barely modified'. It is made to be autonomous, not remotely controlled. Sure, both are unmanned, but the difference is quite immense. A remotely controlled vehicle requires frequent input of an operator, and even a dedicated operator to operate just one vehicle. An autonomous vehicle can have little to no input, and allow an operator to control a whole fleet, and not just one vehicle.
  11. Can anyone with relevant service tell me what this frontal attachment is? My first guess would be a battering ram similar to the one on the Namer:
  12. The 'metals' may not be the same, but it is definitely possible there will be a lot of commonality between the Kaliya (Carmel program has ended), and the OMFV (what people previously referred to as the NGCV). I even posted in this thread that Elbit has an interest in becoming a major systems supplier for the OMFV, and Elbit's CEO specifically referred to technologies they're developing for the Carmel project. They are the most likely company to win the soon-ending contest to design a cockpit, which is where all the vehicle's electronics converge.
  13. So can we officially say the Hercules is no longer related to the Magach (or as you non-joo folks say, 'M60')?
  14. They have. Raytheon perhaps think they have a chance at redemption, but only in the very long run. For the short term, they can only hope to be selected as the 4th tested APS by beating Rheinmetall's ADS (or RAP), or to develop an anti-KE munition which will allow them to be selected for future interceptor replacement efforts as part of the MAPS project.
  15. It's interesting. What did they get exactly by having 2 sizes instead of just keeping the smaller one? Is this supposed to be a show of the previous generation versus current one, or to show 2 existing currently made variants? The Iron Fist at least has clear distinction in capability between its larger and smaller versions. The Trophy in both sizes still defeats the same threats though.
  16. Israel, a very long time ago. Judging by the license plate, the blue car on the left was bought between 1966-1968 in the Tel Aviv district, and was new. The tank was captured in 1967 and repainted in the famous white, as tanks in Israeli captivity for display purposes are typically painted in single bright color schemes. e.g there are 3 SU-100 in Israel bunched up together painted in pink, bright blue, and yellow. As the car is not labeled a collectors car and due to the typical old coloring of the photo, I assume it was taken not very long since 1967, so I guess it's late 60's to late 70's. EDIT: This could very well it being transported to Jerusalem for the annual military parade. The IS-3 is known to have taken part in the 1968 parade.
  17. The QK system was not intended to defeat KEPs afaik, and they deemed the Trophy satisfactory back then, so they didn't really seek any physical end-game protection against large caliber guns.
  18. No recoil damping system, and placed close to center so I expect chassis to break before they can use a 2nd hand to count the number of fired shells.
  19. Only by 1:55 they started showing actually relevant capabilities. In demonstrations #1 and #2, firing a buttload of rounds, especially when the ammo belly is already quite ridiculously low (180, although hopefully it's only 1 magazine and there are more available rounds inside the vehicle), is stupid when first round hit accuracy is that good. In demonstration #3 it should have been done whilst on the move because the first thing such vehicle's crew should be doing when seeing an MBT or IFV (note the Skyranger has HE-F based rounds, not APFSDS, unless it has some sort of dual feed) is flee for cover. Demonstration #4 was actually much more practical. 2 rounds on a maneuvering drone at good range is what you need. Much more ammo-efficient, much more difficult for enemies to get a location on you, and actually gets the job done without throwing the gun meters off target. Overall, though, I'm not really impressed. The defense sector in the US and Israel (and I assume any country that cooperated) has already demonstrated the feasibility of a 100kW laser atop a reasonably sized platform. Even in adverse weather, such high powered laser should be very capable in the low ranges the Skyranger is expected to operate. Next up is the usage of missiles - nowadays it's an absolute must. Turn it into a proper SHORAD instead of a C-RAM or VSHORAD style weapon system, and it could be made into a single system capable of doing point defense for long range air defenses and the required numbers for the protection of a brigade-sized formation can go down.
  20. I believe it was reported quite a while ago by Rafael officials in 2017's MSPO (September 2017). First report was by Shephard.
