  1. There was a time when the Belgian Army operated few Leopard 1A5BE fitted with MEXAS composite add-on armor (some rumors that this add-on armor was designed or manufactured by Cockerill). Their designation within the army was Leopard 1A6BE but it wasn't internationally recognized. One of these tanks was nicknamed Big Bertha. This variant was deemed too heavy and never officially entered service (limited use only).
  2. I've heard that this is especially the case regarding the commander's seat (in terms of lack of comfort). For what purpose ? More tools ? More space for the crew personal equipment ? Or just fitting the tools currently mounted outside (towing cable, entrenching tool, sledgehammer, ...) inside ? So, it would be a kind of lightened version of the SEPAR kit ? Notice the difference in weight between the TC 2 (53 metric tons, two-man turret) and the TC 3 (58 metric tons, three-man turret) concepts.
  3. @Mighty_Zuk Well, with all these information, you should write an article on the Mk. 3 armor right now.
  4. Could it be possible to have a more mature debate, please ?
  5. What munition exactly are they referring to when they're speaking of : 148 mm ATGM 81 mm HHIW 127 mm ATGM IMPROVED (the ITOW ?) That was an error on my part.
  6. Does anyone has this publication ? Richard P. Davitt, "Design and Development of the XM578 APFSDS-T Cartridge for the 152mm XM150 Gun/Launcher: XM803 Main Battle Tank Program (U) ," Picatinny Arsenal Technical Report 4778, December 1975.
  7. There have certainly been a technological transfert between the SNPE and Kaman but the BS-G2 bricks used on the AMX-30B2 Brenus are thicker than the ARA tiles and in addition, provide protection against armor-piercing projectiles fired from medium-caliber autocannons.
  8. ARA The AMX-30B2 Brenus uses BS-G2 reactive modules, here is a picture of a scale model of a M60A1 fitted with BS-G2 :
  9. The Bundesheer uses unconventional sabot training rounds which omit the classical saddle/spool-type sabots design (2017 Strong Europe Tank Challenge).

  11. This armor configuration was designed to defeat 105 mm APDS, isn't it ?
  12. “ High quality powder which is extremely stable even in India’s capricious climate and penetrating power of up to 600mm. ” ABG told us. I do not see why ABG would lie about the penetrating power, the Ammunition Business Group (ABG) includes Nexter Munitions, MECAR and SIMMEL companies. This is just an exposure model, nothing more, I am not even sure that this life-size mock-up was produced by Nexter. This does not necessarily represent the finished product.
  13. Different powder and penetrator technology, improved performances compared to the previous Giat Industries 125G1 APFSDS-T.
