Fair cop. I should’ve read it more closely. -

Force protection kit could include any combination of ECM (Duke, etc.), APS, belly armour, plus TUSK 1 & TUSK 2, most likely. -

*same turret as the first 81 x Stryker Dragoons. The US Army completion for fitting a 30mm turret to its DVH Strykers is ongoing, with MOOG, EOS, Kongsberg, & Cockerill. -

M88 hull stripped down: -
My wish list for the M8 refresh included hydro pneumatic suspension/HSU, band track (thanks Soucy), internal belly armour (where the torsion bars used to be, were the HSU realised), hybrid electric drive, 120mm gun (as per Thunderbolt prototype), and CITV. Ah well.

(Seemingly) new build M8 hull.

Yep. Mainly because distance travelled depends on the tactical situation. Bounding overwatch is slower & covers less distance than advance in column, for example. -

Planning figure I’ve heard is about consumption, not range. Plan 2,000 litres every 8 hours, per tank. -
StuG III Thread (and also other German vehicles I guess)

Updated the post to account for visual dyslexia: after the cast, not welded. -

Very interesting: anything similar out there for the MEXAS for the cast turret? ETA: wrote welded, not cast as I was looking at welded. Ugh. -
I’d expect competitors to move shipment of the RMA vehicles to Australia left, not right. Economic side effects/risks to the program will be more of a factor, imo. Between bushfires & a pandemic, selling an IFV to the Australian public atm is a tough ask.

Absolutely.

Yep. Watched a 6x6 MRAP do that on a 100% (45 degree) slope at Gerotek back in the day. Latest issue of DTR is out, some L400 stuff in it.

Video & still of Hanwha’s automotive test rig hull fitted with a mass simulator in lieu of the turret.

68 metric tonnes? That’s about on par with Abrams!

The armour upgrades for M1A2C are independent from the APS efforts, I believe. -

According to DOT&E, Trophy on Abrams weighs 3.9 tonnes. Maybe the panels on the front of the turret assist in maintaining the centre of balance on the turret Race? eta: while the turret front panels may add incidental protection, I think their primary rationale is as a counterweight. -
BAE Hanwha: is there a comma missing there?

Jebus. The steering wheel was the first thing replaced on Australian special operations forces’ Landrovers - in 2002 - when the Survival Enhancement Kit added blast mitigation inside the footwell (driver’s side was 20mm thick, commander’s side was 40mm thick). Smaller diameter steering wheel meant that the vehicle could still be effectively driven with the SEK added.
