actually i would argue that Iwo Jima is a much, much better example of what the Japs can do defensive wise. Okinawa is fine but halfway through they got a bad case of Banzai syndrome. Plus not every part of mainland Japan is a volcanic island. Its abit harder to defend, since you actually have alot more targets that can be bombed and bombarded. Not to mention the civilan population. The Japanese know first hand from the Fall of Singapore what a bunch of starving civilians and soldiers can do to defensive posture in a hurry. Not to mention with the Soviets in the North, history shows that when a nation has to sides to chose to surrender from rather than one, they start bleeching flags alittle bit quicker

I would wager alot more due to exposure, dwindling food, Allied bombing on top of suicidal defensice doctrine At the very least. Atleast twice that number

I disagree. This is a demonstration of force projection rather than general military proficiency. Not that i am not confident that we have a good military. But its the same as Ukraine demonstrating Russian expertise in Asymmetrical warfare. Different wars point out different things

You want weapon of glorious Soviet design for purposes of self defence and plinking. You buy weapon of Autvomat Kalashnikov in the year 1974 Good rifle serves you best years of your life. You go to fraternal Czechoslovakia you drink beer and fratenize with girls. You go to fraternal East German Republic. You watch the cigarette smoke flow off the furniture of your rifle like dew through the East German pines. You get rifle dirty from long day of eating and smoking you through in lake For as man dug up god's earth to build rifle you return rifle. Baptizing it in the mude, the sweat the blood. For you know deep in your heart that you and your rifle are ready to finish what your fore fathers did in great Patriotic war. Once again the essence of Russian soilder is ready to save the world Thats why you buy rifle

I think the performance of a 130mm gun has alot more to do with it. Faster fire rate and low dispersion is much more important than how much HE you can pack into one shell- this isnt 1916. Modern CWIS and armor mean its not the single big powerful cruise missile that deciamtes fleets but rather swarms of varrying trajectory cruise missiles. Since the biggest meanest ship buster in your aresonal will be just as useless as any other once CWIS gets a beat on it This rings true with artillery aswell for coastal action. Plus 130mm isnt too far away from 122mm so similar performance can be achieved while in a common round- 1,911 replies
