  1. There are a couple of visual clues you can look for to tell the two apart (ignoring T-54 models earlier than the A here, as those are unique enough). The T-54 has a bowl-shaped turret ventilator on top and a small hole on the UFP near the splash plate for the bow machine gun. T-55 got rid of the vent and also lacked the AA machine gun mount. The T-55A nixed the bow machine gun and got back the AA machine gun. Cupola mountings/bases were enlarged to fit the anti-radiation lining and an IR searchlight and mounting was added to the right of the gun (although I think some late T-54s had this as well).
  2. Yeah, it's not on screen for very long. The cameraman conveniently tilts the camera so that it's out of view most of the time. You can hear (and see a few times) the anti-tank rockets the men were carrying being fired at it. I'm trying to decide if there's a second tank at 5:19, if it's the same first tank, or if it's something else. The video gets kind of disorientating from then on.
  3. I don't think it's one of those ISIS propaganda shoots, but I do think this is an Iraqi Abrams (M1A1M).
  4. A bit late, but I'd like to point out that this looks like a T-54 to me, not a T-55 (cylinder on turret is likely cover for vent, lack of searchlight mounting.)
  5. Oh my. How atypical is this for such an aircraft?

  7. I'm a fan of most ships from the Homeworld series, as well as other things by and similar to Chris Foss.
  8. Law and Order: SVU and several things on PBS too, but I don't watch a whole lot of TV.
  9. Yep, and a quick search shows that the internet is already making it one of those trendy may-mays.
  10. I recall meeting a guy in my first year of college who seemed to be under the assumption that the Fukushima disaster killed off or poisoned everything in half of the Pacific ocean. Nuclear power and big corporations bad.
  11. An Al-Zarrar that's burnt down and missing a good chunk of the spaced armor. Is it the lack of anything behind that spaced armor that is the focus here (as in, it was some type of composite add-on)?
  12. Mounting S-5 Rocket pods on technicals and trucks has become quite common in the Middle East. I believe it was in Libya that they first start using them rather frequently. The Russians had similar setups during their time in Afghanistan too. The Strela-10 launcher does look kind of cool with the pods mounted in place of the missiles.
  13. To respond to your comment there, the reason for driving backwards, from what all I've seen, is so that when a shot is taken and the tank's location is revealed, the tank driver can make a faster getaway. The second part of that plan obviously didn't happen in the video, but I'm not sure if I would say it was due to miscommunication/lack of skill, or rather the tank crew didn't expected to receive retaliatory fire. Another interesting video since we're on the topic and since it... has a Russian AFV weapon. https://www.youtube.com/embed/rIUDxRdpoaE
