  1. I've always treated the news with a god deal of skepticism, so seeing a bias from them is something I would expect. What I think is more tricky is being able to tell when Trump is doing something as part of some master plan or when he is simply being foolish. With Hillary, I have to wonder what is corruption and rigging and what's just conspicarcy theories. If Trump makes a controversial statement over banning all Muslims from entering he US and creating a Muslim database, is he doing it for attention and to make latter plans seem more moderate, or is that actually his plan? If some polls are indeed secretly counting "undecided" as "Hillary", that's a little dishonest. So many cases have gone either way. I have too many Trump memes. Urge to shitpost rising.
  2. I find it amusing how they have fancy AKs and kinda passable uniforms, but then only have ratty shoes and sandals on. I'd imagine some nice boots would be useful to have, but perhaps boots are hard to come by over there.
  3. That looks like something pulled straight out of a video game.
  4. Things could have easily changed, but the few (now released) classified docs that I've seen have how secret they are stamped everywhere on them and are pretty hard to miss. Might be harder to do on emails, but I don't see not knowing they were classified as a valid reason at all, either way. Whether or not she really realized they were classified doesn't change how they were handled. Commie spies don't care about intent. I've not read the link in question yet, but will in a bit when I've got the time.
  5. Combine poor lighting and crappy phone camera, and you get a mess. I'm too lazy to strive for anything better, which includes replacing that brunt out light in the ceiling fixture. I don't know if you can even call two a collection, but I may as well post it because Sturgeon only posted baby-sized ammo. Pictured here is a 40mm Mk3 round the American's made, which I nabbed a while back from an antique store. I've got a 30mm casing from a GAU-8 laying around somewhere, but it's likely in a box packed away somewhere right now. Only other rounds I have that are special to any degree and not pictured are half a dozen or so .32 S&W long and a .454 Casull. I'm still a bit too young to have the disposable income to buy odd ammo for a collection, but one of these days, that will be less true. Not ammo, but I did grab some googles that were used in the "Late 40s" with the American nuclear program, complete with the tin it came in and the contract number from the same antique store as the 40mm round. IIRC they were for doing thingies with various isotopes, not for watching bombs go off. .50 BMG, nugget food, and .22 LR placed by it for a sense of scale. Spoilers won't work, so deal with it. I entirely forgot this section is called "Infantry Tools & Tactics"
  6. I've not been able to read too much on the topic, but from what I've heard when talking with or watching the pro-EU crowd, mty experience align with baby's. While I probably would end up still leaning towards the UK staying from what little I know, I don't like how a lot of people are going about talking about it. I have no bias either way on this issue since the closest tie I have with the UK is a HUDL 2 tablet from Tesco I imported from there because it was some pretty good bang per buck of what I needed. By and large, people wanting to stay that I was exposed to treated it as a "common sense" issue. By this, I mean not only do they see the issue as something so abundantly simple and clear that any sane person would agree, but assume anyone who disagrees lacks common sense and treats that position as such. Common sense is not something I like to see used as a key argument in political debate, especially when your country is split damn near in half over the issue. Maybe I'm just annoyed how instead of debate, I'm just seeing positions dismissed instead. I want to see facts and numbers smashing brexit every time if its such a stupid idea, not labelling dissenters as frothy, xenophobic nationalist.
  7. yummy yummy leaks https://guccifer2.wordpress.com/2016/06/15/dnc/ edit for youtube thing I just got linked
  8. On the subject of Hillary I wish this were real
  9. The range I've always gone to is a free outdoors one, so magnetic cases aren't an issue. Actually, non-brass cases would almost be something I'd prefer in a way. There's this one guy who's always at the range picking up brass to sell and he's harassed several of my gun pals on several occasions about how they really should shoot brass instead of steel (so he can pick it up and sell it). He doesn't even work for the park, so now we shoot non-brass cases as much as possible to mess with the guy. I guess a better question for me to ask is would there be any ammo brands to avoid for my Mosin? I figure any that people will have on their shelves here is going to be stuff that works. I knew pretty much all the Soviet surplus ammo is going to have corrosive primers, but after cleaning out the bolt, I think I'll stick with non-corrosive now. It looks to me like the previous owner of that bolt didn't usually take the firing pin out of the bolt while cleaning, because the part with the spring over it has some minor pitting, but it didn't have any impact on performance at all. While it is minor, it does show me what will happen if I dare get lazy with cleaning after shooting commie bullets. I didn't actually take the receiver and magazine out of the stock, but I reached around in there with some cleaning stuff and I feel I hit all the parts that I would need to hit, and maybe a little extra. My bolt is a lot more shiny now that I've gotten a lot of the little gunk bits off it, plus it is a lot smoother. I just need to wait for my cleaning kit to come in so I have that handy little firing pin tool in it. I got by today with doing it by hand with unscrewing it from the cocking knob, but that's a pain in the butt. Anyone have any ideas why my bolt is covered in random stampings on that area? Also, before I go off to bed, beyond checking the firing pin depth or not putting pipe bombs in the gun, is there anything else I should do to avoid things like this?
  10. First thing I did when I got back was get out all of that gunk. I used some of that hoppe's solvent on it, let that sit a little, then wiped it out. I'm typing from my phone since I'm actually taking the bolt all the way apart right now, though I don't think I'll be able to do the same tonight with the rest of the gun which won't be an issue. Would you recommend that I let these bolt parts soak overnight in ammonia or some other cleaner? I still haven't cleaned my gun as thoroughly as I would have originally liked, but I'm not going shooting for the next few days anyway. And before I get back to fiddling with this, anyone have ammo they'd recommend for the range? I won't be able to buy a spam can with my budget right now, since the bedt I can find one for is $175.
  11. I did get to take it down to the range, and some friends brought a couple of their (shitty) Mosins too. I sadly have no pictures, but we had 3 total if you include mine. I think the other two were the usual Soviet M91/30, though they didn't keep their Mosins in good shape. In their defense, they both got theirs as $70 guns to do stupid stuff with, but they still aren't nice to the things. The bores on both probably look like a moonscape, and one of the guys used brake cleaner on his after we shot. One has a plastic pistol grip screwed in behind the trigger and a muzzle brake at the end, the other missing the front sight post. I remember one had a wobbly bolt and some other stuff. Like I said, it's probably far from a fair comparison, but we all decided we liked the Finn one the most. We were firing at targets 100 yards out or so and their Mosins couldn't hit shit, but mine went where I wanted it too. I put about 30 rounds through mine and I really like it. The trigger on it is really nice and smooth, plus it's easy to tell when it's going to shoot. It's a nice fat bullet, so it's really satisfying to shoot. Even just the looks of it I really like. The wooden furniture has nice curves, plus the front iron sights look nice and beefy. Just everything about the gun is nice, though it's a little heavier than most Mosins. I really should try to get better pictures and put them in the gun porn thread, but I noticed it looked like aliens got to the bolt while I was taking it apart. It is a Russian made Izhevsk bolt that was likely taken from a dead commie (the knurling on the cocking knob was worn down even more than other the other two shit sticks), but it still works just fine. Anyone know what sort of space alien would leave all of those extra marks? One of the guys that I went with has a standard bayonet just sitting in a crate, so I may ask him about it in the future at some point. I could try taking a Dremel to said bayonet, but that's assuming that this could even work in the first place. The lug that keeps the bayonet on the M39 is actually on the bottom of the first barrel band.
  12. tl;dr gaijin wants to either turn tanks RB into arcade mode or abuse youtube's copyright strike system to censor people who dare mention the hacks floating around for tanks RB
  13. My baby came in, and it's in really nice shape. It looks unissued, though the bolt has certainly seen use. The bolt's from Izhevsk, the knurling is worn down on the cocking nob and it's got some patina, but the serial numbers match and seems to work just fine from sliding it around. The magazine has a slight patina to it as well. The wood looks brand new, and I've only found two tiny dings in it from storage. Bore looks well kept and the inside looks brand new. Serial number is 66646 and it's a VKT with the receiver dated at 1944. There's a whole bunch of random letters and markers on different parts too, but it's a Finnish Mosin. It's SA marked like in this pic (not mine): Really happy with what I got and I'll take it out shooting some tomorrow with some friends. My birthday is on the 24th as well, so it's kind of a gift from me to me in a way as well. I can take some better pictures tomorrow since my cell phone is refusing to take respectable pictures with the lighting this time of day. The one downside of the M39 is you're never going to find a bayonet for the bastard. Sad, but worth it.
  14. Despite whatever place I came in, without being cheesy, I can say that it was a good experience for me nonetheless. I finally got myself to model something this year and complete it. I've not done it before to anywhere near this extent, but I enjoyed trying to get the best package I could while still getting it in a C-130. If I'm making a design for fun, it's usually rule of cool with plausibility added. This time, I tried to make a design I liked, while making sure it still worked. Making sure it worked added some challenge to it that made it fun. I feel the main weakness of my submission was I focused too much on what I thought would be a neat design, though it wasn't originally going to be anywhere near as serious of a submission either. I only learned this and a lot of other potentially useful info later, but like I already touched on, my design is pretty similar to the American light tanks from the 80s, which I just so happen to really like. With advancements in armor technology and other stuff, I was able to squeeze a bit more performance out, but still had plenty of guesswork with the automotives. I also got to read up on autoloading systems and realize I should read more about metal alloys. It was cool to see it be as liked as it was, seeing as you all are generally well read on all things tanky. I'll be back tomorrow to do whatever things I have to do, but off to bed I go. I'm typing on a touchscreen in bed without autocorrect. Suffer
  15. I don't know if anyone plays WT tanks, but Gaijin has certainly announced some interesting additions coming soon™ They're adding ATGM vehicles. They already have the Sheridan and IT-1 modeled with claims of a Jaguar 2 (!) as well. I'll laugh if they add TOW missiles to WT. T-62, M60A1, Ontos, more American heavies, Sturer Emil, and the IS-6 are apparently coming as well. Fancier AA is also being thrown in, with the Shilka, Gepard, and Vulcan 20mm (probably a M163) mentioned. Looks like they want to extend tiers in tanks.
  16. Appropriately for me getting a Finnish Mosin, I've got 8 of the Finnish "Tikkakoski" clips, but I've also got 4 with a different mark stamped on the back. It's a triangle in a circle at the center of the clip, and I'm not seeing it listed there. Pictures below. I'll also note that these seem to be the real deal, but a few are a little bent from their previous owners. The Finn ones look somewhere between their examples of a reproduction and real one with the mystery proofmark ones having nice and crisp edges.
  17. itshappening.gif A friend of mine was also kind enough yesterday to give me 12 clips, 22 rounds, and a handy little pouch for it yesterday. I can already tell why people dislike stripper clips. Also found this funny while I was filling out the order form: "Do you want it shipped for twenty dollars or would you rather just own it remotely from our warehouse?"
  18. I got linked this thread earlier today, and it has a lot of interesting photos in it. A lot of them have shown up in this thread before, but I think it's got some new ones too. http://www.steelbeasts.com/topic/10104-merkava-armor-layout-and-protection-estimates/
  19. I think what I'll end up doing is getting one of those VKT M39 Mosins with the $20 hand select, still unsure on if I should get a sling too while it's easy. The m/39 looks like both a fine gun and a nice investment, especially since they're probably about to start being more expensive. While a carry gun has more utility, I also live in the nicer part of town so for the most part I don't really ever find myself feeling sketched out without one. A Glock 19, while it may still be able to be concealed fine and be more fun to shoot, it's still twice as big as the MDE. The ability to put it in my pocket almost like a phone is the important part, something the Glock 19 won't really be able to do near as well. A lot of what I would wear wouldn't conceal something at my waist as well as I'd like. If I've got it in a wallet holster, for all anyone knows, it's a wallet. I've still not really been able to find many negative reviews at all about the MDE, though I could certainly look deeper as well. The thing about "boring guns" is a good point though, and I would imagine myself ending up with a Glock (or CZ-75 or other good handgun) and MDE in the future anyway. The MDE is also a relatively new gun for the most part, so I don't think it would have had time to achieve boring status yet. The MDE just doesn't sound like the best first gun I could get. Combine that with how now is a good time to get the Model 39 Mosin, and I think I've made my decision. There was a lot of big posts, and while I didn't address everything in this reply, I had read it all and appreciate the advice. The CMP is something I've been meaning to look into as well, so I've got those pages bookmarked.
  20. By the sounds of it, if I can get one of those M39 Mosins now, then I should do that. I'd want to look at it more tomorrow when I'm at my computer, but my concern with buying a surplus gun off the internet is I don't want to end up buying one with a bad bore. I'll be back tomorrow to reply to things.
  21. I'll respond to the pistol stuff tomorrow when I have a functioning brain, but I figure I may as well ask about a surplus rifle now, seeing what just got posted. I was originally planning on an SKS since ammo is cheap, I like the looks, there's lots of info out there on them and I was wanting a semi auto surplus rifle. Getting an SKS would be cheaper than some sort of AK, and I'd like to learn how to use a stripper clip. However, I know I would like some surplus bolt as well, and a fancy Finn Mosin seens like it could also be a good investment. There's that one French rifle someone here was praising that I liked too, until I saw the ammo costs.
  22. My internet detective skills have paid off, and yes, it's the turret I thought it was.
  23. I'll get it back on track with this "panther" from Saumur. For a movie prop, they could have done a lot worse. The mantlet actually looks alright, and they even put a little cupola on there. If the gun wasn't at a funky angle and splitting in half, it would probably look good too.
