  1. Maybe I could find an article from Czech ATM magazine from the end of 90' about this missile. I should have it somewhere in my parent's house. I remember that many of these images were part of it too.
  2. It's not difficult to come with requirements which are impossible to fulfill by one or more bidders. That has been even intentionally used for ages all over the Globe. Not saying that it's this case, of course.
  3. Iran already has several of them I think (plus Algeria but that's not in the Middle East).
  4. AFAIK Saudi National Guard does not operate any tanks, only wheeled vehicles.
  5. Update from lostarmour from the same battle. The numbers are growing fast, now on 53... LAV-25 10x LAV Bison 1x LAV A 1x M-163 3x Spartan 10x M-ATV 8x Al-Wahsh 13x Guardian 4x Armoured Hillux 3x
  6. Lostarmour counted documented coalition armor loses in the lost battle of Kitaf as 25 pieces: LAV-25 5x LAV Bison 1x M-163 2x Spartan 6x M-ATV 3x Al-Wahsh 8x
  7. As You probably know we have been using RCWS 30 for years now (even in Baltic missions) and I don't remember there was ever some complain about its performance in winter (maybe they were but it seems to be strange that nothing would surface on public). Anyway it seems that our MOD doesn't put that much importance on low temperatures lately since the winters generally become softer. Lately they ordered AH-1Z and UH-1Y hellicopters. Neither one of them has heated rotor blades (unlike Mil hellicopters we have now) but they don't seem to see it as a problem.
  8. One of the last five or so operational Slovak MiG-29 crashed. The pilot ejected and is ok. The reason of the accident is under investigation but it seems the plane ran out of fuel when it was diverted to Bratislava airfield due to a bad weather in Sliač. The spox said there may have been an issue with the fuel system but that must be determined by the investigation comitee. https://www.idnes.cz/zpravy/zahranicni/slovensko-stihacka-pad-zritila-mig-29-pilot-katapultoval-prezil-cvicny-let.A190928_222328_zahranicni_pmk
  9. This is the best book about Czechoslovak tanks I have (not having many though). Here it's now basically impossible to find anywhere. Luckily I bought it twenty years a go when I was still a schoolboy. After a quick search I found that the book was published also in English since Charles Kliment has been living in USA for decades (he was born in Prague). The English one is for example here. I don't know if the content of the English version is same as Czech one. The original has also an attachment of dozens of factory drawings for both serial vehicles and some paper designs which never got even into the prototype.
  10. Additional info. 58 UAV shot down in 2019 so far. 60 in whole 2018. Since the attacks achieved zero success this quote pops up...
  11. From the ongoing CIA tweets about the operation Jawbreaker.
  12. It's not only about the vehicles themselves but also about the connections with local partners of each companies and of course lobbying connected with that. GDELS has very well establieshed ties with several Czech companies, especially CSG Group (Tatra Defence, Excalibur Army, Retia etc.). The same group of companies has good ties with Izraeli companies like Elbit and Rafael and since Elbit supplies the turret for ASCOD 42 it adds to the equation as well. In that regard KMW, Rheinmetall and BAE are in worse starting position. It's true that Puma excelled in the preliminary army testing over the other vehicles but that was Bundeswhehr Puma, i.e. something very different to what will be in the end offered to Czech army.
  13. Roughly one year a go... click on the first photo to see it uncropped.
  14. According to Konashenkov Hmeimym AD shot down 13 drones and 30 rockets in the past four months.
  15. Where are all those PASGT helmets from?
  16. Today I was hiking in the mountains around Liberec city in the northern Bohemia when I stumbled upon this memorial of an aircraft accident from August 1948. There was also part of the wing (or something else?) left on the place (most of the other parts are in nearby museum). The plane which crashed there was Aero C-3D (Czech-built Siebel Si-204). During approach to Liberec airport the plane got into the clouds around the peak of Ještěd mountain (1012 meters high), hit the treetops and broke into pieces which started to burn. There were six people on board - the pilot, the radio operator and the navigator as a crew and the other three passengers were Aero and state aircraft research bureau designers. One of the passengers - Aero chief designer Antonín Husník managed to get all the others out of the flames but himself succumbed to his injuries six days later. Despite the fact that four others died on the spot his sacrifice was not in vain because he managed to save life of one of his colleagues who was the only survivor of the crash. The plane hit the treetops somewhere in this area (the tower on the mountain was built only some twenty years later).
  17. According to what I read elsewhere there are no survivors of CW-21. Anyway since some of you guys used to play, it's worth mentioning that CW-21 is in the good old Il-2 Sturmovik simulator (in one of the 16 years long line of patches). I don't know how accurate the physical model is but it's probably the only chance to get a taste of this interesting plane. There it's indeed very agile with great climb rate however it is also rather unstable in longitudinal axis and quit fragile. It indeed feels close to the Japanese planes in agility. The worst thing about it is its primitive sights (the tubular ones of the contemporary Ki-43 are nightmare to use in dogfight though). As for the armament the developers put both options in there, i.e. both 2 x 7,7 + 2 x 12,7 and 4 x 7,7 mm.
  18. It' BMD-2, not BMP Anyway hopefully it was dropped without the crew...
  19. The photos are from Prague military forum. General Dynamics presented this variant of ASCOD 2 as a demonstrator compatible with the main requirements of Czech army. It's 3+8 configuration with manned turret and APS however it's not the final prototype of the vehicle for Czech tender.
  20. From NATO days in Ostrava - Reigning RedBull Air Race Champion and an ex-Grippen pilot Martin Šonka and air force Grippen pilot Ivo Kardaš in their special display. This photo and more are from this link. More than 200 thousand people came to visit the show. A particularly interesting thing is that the US C-5M brought there the AZ-1Z and UH-1Y which Czech MOD recently ordered and the public could see them for the first time. Army representatives recently confirmed that they count with buying more of these hellicopters in the future (the first order contains 8 UH-1Y and 4 AH-1Z). Also a first service center for them outside US is to be established in Prague by Czech state-owned LOM company.
