If I were George Lucas and somebody came to me with that story proposal, I'd feed them to the Sarlacc in my backyard.- 724 replies

The terrible movies and reviews thread

Hell, the Empire would have crushed the Yuuzhan Vong invasion immediately where the New Republic was too weak and indecisive to do so and let it grow beyond manageable levels, so the blood of 365 trillion dead sapients from that war is on Luke Skywalker's hands. Not that that was a good story arc. You can't expect me to take people flying coral spaceships, wearing space crabs for armor, and wielding snakes as weapons as a credible threat.- 724 replies

Not to mention that photon torpedoes have utterly pathetic yields by SW standards, they're on the order of double digit megatons while ISDs are slinging hundreds of gigatons.- 724 replies

I also like how Federation captains ignore that supposedly important directive all the time and never get punished for it.- 724 replies

Transporters get interfered with and blocked when someone blinks at them funny, it's an unwarranted assumption that they'd work fine through the exotic shielding and armor plate of an ISD. Not to mention that the sheer strategic mobility advantage the Empire has, with hyperdrives that can cross the entire galaxy in days, means the Empire will always dictate the terms of engagement.- 724 replies

Picked up an Asus MG279Q, a 144hz 1440p IPS monitor. Avoided the QC issues that many people suffered too, no dead pixels or backlight bleed at all. And by Odin's beard, is it smooth. 60hz is ruined for me, I can never go back.

Yeah, very true. That Alpha Protocol wasn't a massive success is a travesty.

The gunplay is much improved, but they really dumbed it down, it's a massive step back as an RPG. Thanks to the terrible "4 buttons" dialogue system, you only have a vague idea of what you're actually going to say, and your SPECIAL and skills have no effect on dialogue options with the exception of charisma, unlike in FO3 and NV where you had options related to your skills all the time. The UI is unintuitive for the PC, much like Skyrim was. Still uses the shit, glitchy Gamebryo/Creation engine that Bethesda should have dropped years ago. Plot and characters are very meh compared to New Vegas. Just play New Vegas, it's a much better RPG.

Neoreactionaries, a term modern day monarchists made up to make themselves sound less silly. Also tend to be quite racist and sexist.

Watched Waterloo, the 1970 movie. Pretty good, the battle scenes were well done. Though the one guy lamenting the horrors of war in the middle of a battle was pretty hamfisted.- 724 replies

Now that's interesting. Hopefully we get some more studies on this to see if it's reproducible.

I got Docetism, which is the belief that Jesus had no physical body and was merely some kind of hologram. I wonder if anyone ever killed each other over that belief. Heh, religion.

Why the Napleon wasn't short myth is retarded
SergeantMatt replied to T___A's topic in History, Culture, and Archaeology
He was 5'6", yes, but that wasn't considered short at the time. That was the height of the average Frenchman at the time. http://www.napoleon-series.org/research/abstract/population/vital/c_heights1.html In fact, if that site is accurate, the average Frenchman at the time was only 5'4.5". American men were notably taller, at around 5'8", which would explain both of the Americans you referenced. -

The Armored Warfare Disappointment Thread
SergeantMatt replied to T___A's topic in Fiction & Entertainment
Note to self, abandon all efforts to argue with people in AW general chat about how Soviet tanks were not, in fact, piles of junk with no armor and peashooters that explode if you look at them funny. That way lies pain. Also, the Leopard II fanboys are legion. -
