Mormon Seer Stone Released
Walter_Sobchak replied to Donward's topic in History, Culture, and Archaeology
Seriously? The best holy relic the Mormon church can come up with is a fucking small stone? Once again Catholicism proves that it rocks harder than any other religion. Behold, the Holy Prepuce! Yep, the foreskin of god. That's pretty damn metal. -
Looks like everything that could be removed by scrappers was taken away. It's rather depressing to look at, a bit like the shell of a beetle that is long dead. Worthy of a sad poem perhaps?

Russia Today fails at basic tank ID "Hundreds of Abraham M1 Abrams, provided by Saudi Arabia, rolled out of Aden, Tuesday, in a bid to strengthen forces loyal to ousted president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi as they continue to fight with Houthi militants for the al-Anad air base in Taiz. Reports emerging Tuesday claim that the base has been re-captured to those loyal to Hadi, with the forces reportedly aided by heavy aerial assistance from Saudi-led coalition" Abraham M1 Abrams?

Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.

I picture Abrams and T-80s sitting around in a salon, sporting beer guts and beer steins, toasting the days that could have been. -
Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.
Walter_Sobchak replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
I feel bad for the T-64. Here is a tank that was an absolute stud when it was introduced, yet because it was never exported it never saw combat, unlike its cousins the T-72 and T-80. And then, 30 some years after it is introduced, it's finally put into combat in a half-assed civil war. These tanks sit around in Ukrainian tank graveyards dreaming of storming through the fulda gap, not fighting Russian "separatist" T-72s. -
The Preliminary T-72ology Thread
Walter_Sobchak replied to Collimatrix's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Jeez, don't you guys know anything about cold war soviet tanks? The T-70 MBT! It totally existed, at least in the minds of western intelligence experts. It looked almost exactly like a very early T-64 but it was somehow different. Much like bigfoot, it only existed in blurry, hard to see pictures.- 63 replies

The Soviet Tank Thread: Transversely Mounted 1000hp Engines

It was my attempt at fake Cyrillic? I feel all warm and fuzzy, thanks! But seriously, was the movie any good? I have enjoyed most of the Marvel movies so far (even ghost rider, although not for the reasons the makers of the films intended.)- 5,225 replies

Zhirinovskiy on Russian Culture
Walter_Sobchak replied to EnsignExpendable's topic in Fiction & Entertainment
Personally, I am an atheist, and I am not particularly fond of Christopher Hitchens. He was a swarmy ass who shit all over his friends when politically convenient and tended to use his atheism to justify being a dick. However, his take down of Jerry Falwell on CNN when they interviewed him at the time of Falwell's death was one of the greatest moments of mainstream media trolling ever. Pretty much sums up how I feel about clergy. I suspect there are a sizable number of Americans such as myself that cringe everytime a politician claims to be worthy of office because they are "Christian." However, there are a substantial number of US citizens that regularly fall for this line of bull shit and that is very frustrating for those of us that prefer to think, rather than to believe. -

Explosive Reactive Armor
Walter_Sobchak replied to Collimatrix's topic in Ballistics Science Discussion
Ogorkiewicz is pretty rad, but he really loves those German MTU engines. Seriously, in his last book he disses on the Continental AVCR-1360 four times. Most engines don't even get mentioned that many times in his book so its a bit odd that an engine that never even went into production gets that much criticism. Seriously, how does he poop on that engine more than he does on the British Leyland L60? Still, I gave the book all the stars on amazon.- 282 replies

The Preliminary T-72ology Thread
Walter_Sobchak replied to Collimatrix's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Hey, I thought I was the official poster of Jim Warford ARMOR articles on the internet! As to the model kit EE posted of the T-74, that tank was not nearly as cool as the T-70. The T-70 got all sorts of press in Western intel reports back in the day. In fact, I can point to some early 80's era Armor issues where a young Lt. Jim Warford is arguing about the T-70 with a young civilian Soviet tank expert named Steven Zaloga.- 63 replies

From what the article says, almost all the Garand tanker rifles are after market jobs, since it only existed in prototype and most of those were destroyed. In general it seems that cutting down the barrel length of a full size rifle does not usually result in a particularly good weapon. I suppose exceptions exist, K98 for example? What say you knowledgeable fire arms peoples?

Overreacting to stupid shit is pretty much the entire reason the internet exists. It's just a way for people to vent. I don't think yahoo news article comments are a precursor to the return of fascism.

Today somebody sent me an email asking if I had any material showing what the bottom of the T-34 looked like. Glancing through my books on the topic, none really show this view of the vehicle. The guy asking is working on a series of T-34 models and wants as much detail as possible. Anyone got something on this?

Ukrainian armor - Oplot-M, T-64M Bulat and other.
Walter_Sobchak replied to LoooSeR's topic in Mechanized Warfare
Because "roaming tank" is the hero Ukraine deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A roaming tank. http://www.voanews.com/content/ukraine-mysterious-roaming-tank-reportedly-takes-aim-at-smugglers/2887112.html
