  1. while I was looking for news about the situation in Yemen, I found this article. I think it might be a bit biased.... Yemen Turned into Holocaust of UAE Tanks, Soldiers
  2. This link seems to have died. Anyone have an alternative? nterrogation of Herr Stiele von Heydekampf (On Porsche's designs, Tiger/Panther development, T-34's influence on German tank development, and long term trends in German tank building)
  3. That reminds me of the time my highschool chemistry teacher said "Kids, be sure to grease your stopcocks." Much giggling ensued.
  4. That's why you do like famous actor Richard Harrison and wear a special ninja headband that says the word "ninja" right on it.
  5. Those Bundeswehr videos are cool. I have been watching them with the close captioning set to translate to English. The results are...odd.
  6. And for those of us in an urban environment, a cheap and easy markmanship hobby is to take a pair of scissors to the bar and cut the cardboard coasters into the shapes of throwing stars. Then, you can chuck them at the heads of the most annoying people in the establishment. However,be sure to wear all black so that they automatically assume you are a ninja, then they will be too scared to try to kick your ass.
  7. I don't understand how they managed to miss the Arjun MBT. That should have made the list for sure.
  8. My favorite part is where they include the Israeli Sabra (really?) and then in their photo montage include a picture of a Leopard I (at the 2:12 mark)
  9. Every morning I sift through the latest tank related crap that the internet has vomited forth for content on my blog. Searching through youtube is particularly painful. Every time I find something with "top ten" in the title I know it will be complete crap. However, this one raises the bar on how bad a top ten list can be. I warned you.
  10. True. It's interesting how small and round the cast turret looks on the early version. It's so un-German looking! The later Leopard 1A3 with the welded turret seems so much more German in appearance to me.
  11. Interesting video. The size comparisons seem a bit off to me. I have a hard time believing that this vehicle was really lower than a T-55. Also, the power to weight ratio chart seems a bit optimistic. I doubt the difference was quite that extreme once the Leo 1 went into production and gained some weight.
  12. Yeah, I don't see the comparison. T-62 and M60 make a much better comparison in my mind. In both cases, the USA and the USSR took their first generation medium tank (t-55 and M48) and upgraded it with a new turret, hull improvements and a new gun to create a second generation post war tank. Certainly, neither tank was perfect although I would argue that the M60 has had a more impressive service record. The Soviet Union was able to replace the T-62 as their front line vehicle much more quickly than the US since their generation 2.5 tank, the T-64, went into production while the US generation 2.5 tank did not (MBT-70). M47 is more comparable to the T-44, a stop gag until the much better T-54/55 came into service, same as how M48 replaced M47. Anyhow, the M60 was a better tank than the M48 in just about every way. I am not sure the same can be said for the T-62 versus the T-55. T-55 certainly provided more bang for the buck, as evidenced by it's vastly superior export success.
  13. All in all, not the worst vismod I have seen for that era. At least they didn't just paint a white star on the T-34 and call it close enough.
  14. Boko Haram.... didn't they sing that song "Whiter Shade of Pale?"
  15. Don't worry guys, the US government is spending $131 million of US taxpayer dollars to make sure that Brazil has upgraded Gavins. This is an essential component of our security strategy.
  16. I'm sure the SF guys don't much care for anyone telling them how they should conduct their business, particularly civilians.
  17. Media critic and left wing icon Noam Chomsky has a saying that you should always read the last paragraph of a news article first, because that's were hte important information is. In this case, the last sentence is: So while the entire article is framed around the notion of changing standards, the real issue is that the standards that already exist were not being followed.
  18. Personally I always like the John Hodgman clips best in regards to the Daily Show. Here he is chatting with John Cleese.
  19. The fact that three recruits died as a result of this test indicates to me that some safeguards should probably be put in place. I would think there are ways to test metal and physical stamina without actually marching people to death.
