Wiedzmin got a reaction from Clan_Ghost_Bear in The Leopard 2 Thread
This are the requirements written in 1977/1978 of the Dutch army when they needed a new tank which became the Leopard 2.
a: with direct fire kinectic or chemical energy ammunition of enemy tanks or anti-tank weaponsystems to a distance of 2000 mtr (only for the frontal armour)
b: direct fire armour piercing projectiles with a caliber from 20mm to 30mm to a distance of 100mtr (all around)
c; the effects of shrapnel from enemy 152mm HE exploding at 30mtr distance
d: enemy detection
e: fire and explosion after a hit
f: AP mines and the effects of AT mines as long as they don't explode under the hull
g: against the use of NBC weapons including the effects of an EMP
(in a other document about the nuclear protection, minimal 20KT at 1km 50% change tank and crew 1 hr employable)
And this is what the Germans told about the protection of the Dutch Leopard 2A4s

Wiedzmin reacted to LoooSeR in Explosive Reactive Armor
Quick summary for english speakers:
Trials of Soviet anti-HEAT ERA were conducted in VNII-100 from 1958 to 1963. Can increase protection of tanks with weight increase of 550-600kg or decrease of weight of tanks while having same level of protection. Protective section is 420x1130mm, consist of 18 flat charges in aluminea containers. Containers are mounted on steal ribs which are weilded to main armor of the AFV. Weight of that section - 200kg. Total weight of explosives - 28kg. Container height is 48mm. Can survive up to 4 hits.
ERA have 2nd variant with assemblable sections with height of 120mm, can be mounted by a crew in 10 minutes. Turret protection consist of 2 parts - upper+roof and lower part of turret. Lower part consist of multilayered protective charges, upper - same sections as on frontal armor. That ERA allows protection from Schmel and Kop'yo missiles and similar. Weight of that assembly on turret - 400kg -
