  1. I know all to well about being deployed and using HMMVW in butt puckering situations. So something like this does have it's practical applications. A mixed fleet of vehicles is probably a better solution than replacing them all.
  2. If the US is going to keep doing what it is doing in the places it is doing it, there are never really going to be any areas where they don't have the potential of being shot at. The Jeep was great for running about behind the lines, back when you had actual lines. You still need a utility vehicle but it needs to be survivable when everything outside your base is vulnerable to attack. Is it a sound substitute for a grocery getting utility vehicle? No it isn't. If the US is going to continue getting itself into the situations it finds itself in, they are almost a necessity.
  3. I was in for a good while and outside a few specialized units and range control, never really saw many CUCV in combat unit roles. I think we learned that vulnerable vehicles puttering around in even supposedly "secure" areas still ended up with men and women coming home dead. I spent a lot of time in HMMVW, this looks like an upgrade to me.
  4. Pretty is not a requirement for functional.
  5. CUCVs were still tooling around when I got out in 2000.
  6. Not bad. Nice BMP upgrade I'd say. http://www.armyrecognition.com/slovak_slovakia_light_armoured_vehicles_technical_data_uk/sakal_ifv_bvp-m2_skcz_armoured_infantry_fighting_vehicle_technical_data_sheet_specifications_pictures_video_12607152.html
  7. Getting within 50 meters on a second round correction was always a goal with regular artillery rounds, but this is pretty cool. Being just a bolt on package, it's much cheaper than task specific built rounds. Not really a new trend though, the US has had the M898, M712, and M982 in the inventory for a while. M982 is also GPS guided with an error probability of 5 to 20 meters.
  8. Is that the museum that used to be in Fair Park or is it some place different? I had a '66 Satellite that bought back in high school but I sold it when I went into the Army. Really enjoyed Mopar.
  9. Mustangs turned god awful ugly in 1971. The '69 and '70 models with the 429 are acceptable.
  10. Looks more like the impact was to the center rear of the turret, maybe even caught the commanders hatch. Poor tactical training on the Saudi part.
  11. I had a 72 Coronet Crestwood for my first car. It only had a 318. It burned to the ground one night on my way home from work,.
  12. We can make much more money in the private sector. The government cannot keep talent if the pay them those lousy GS or military salaries. Relying on guys who rotate through their enlistments/commissions every few years and then get poached by the private sector is not a strategy that will ever work.
  13. I've owned a 65 Dart, 68 Charger, 64 Impala, 67 C10, and a 51 Mercury Eight. Been trying to convince the Minister of Finance to allow another project car but I was told I would need to cut the budget on one of more of my other hobbies.
