  1. That ASV looks like it was set on fire after it was abandoned.
  2. I was born in Ukraine during the Soviet days. My mother is Ukrainian and my father was from Wexford, Ireland and working in Ukraine on some telecommunications project. My crisis is determining whether or not to eat potatoes or distill them..| Back to guns. Does anyone have experience with Franchi shotguns? I own a Benelli, Remington, and Browning shotgun and was considering picking up one of these over-unders for sport shooting. Thoughts? http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/37_1031/products_id/411548772
  3. They kind of got the Assyrian soldier sort of right. Not sure about the leg armor though. Some nifty Nubian stuff here. http://interactive.archaeology.org/hierakonpolis/nubians.html
  4. Seems like they slowed them down some, but maybe that is just my perception.
  5. I saw that one, I was just curious if there were any images of the destroyed M1. The images in the ISIS thread appear to be the same tank. I'd like to see the results of the ATGM impact on the turret front.
  6. I've been to Pripyat. I have family in the Chernihivs'ka oblast, which is to the east of the radiological preserve . I had some cool pictures but they left with the ex-wife.
  7. Any more of that M1 that was hit with the Kornet? Like after action type shots?
  8. Not even Best Korea wears them like that and boy do they like their medals.
  9. We have a place in Arlington "Taste of Europe" that serves good Russian and Ukrainian food. I go there often because not only is the food good but I can talk to someone in Ukrainian so I don't forget how. They also sell lots of Russian and Ukrainian household gifts and Soviet military surplus. There is a banya in Carrollton that has a restaurant but I've never been. I hear it is good though. We also have place called Taste of Poland in Plano, cafe and market style place. Food there is great. Other than that, my home cooked meals are from my Russian neighbor and the nice Ukrainian girl that works at my barber shop who brings in food all the time.
  10. Hollywood can't even get US military uniforms correct so expecting them to get Russian uniform correct is a reach.
  11. Get advanced degree in electrical engineering, working in basement labs of major telecom company, get paid ridiculous salary, take lots of vacations.
  12. One of my favorite trucks here called Mishas Kitchen has them sometimes. Russian food note, DFW is sorely lacking proper Slavic cuisine.
  13. My art appreciation pretty much stops around 1936. The interwar exhibit of Italian, French, and German art at the Guggenheim was pretty amazing. Not impressed with much after that with the exception of a few specific works by a couple artist.
  14. Depictions of the human form were not really a big part of Migration Period peoples art forms and what they did create tended to be pretty crude. Sculpture did regress quite a bit from classical antiquity but If you look frescos, the images of people tend to resemble the same flat images the continued on through the middle ages. On the other looking at jewelry, gold work, and other such "tangible" items, you'll find really stunning works. It really wasn't until the very early Renaissance that we start seeing "real" looking people. Anyway, Picture of Winged Victory I took at the Louvre.
