LostCosmonaut
So, as y'all might know, the Phantom II originally started as a development of the F3H Demon. I had been curious if there was a similar link between the Banshee and Demon. So far I have not been about to find one, although there are a couple proposals for swept-wing afterburning Banshees (the engine is not specified). Interestingly, the XF-88 and the F-101 share the same McDonnell model number (36).
LostCosmonaut
Another demonic McDonnell codename; Might be connected to the Hughes missile project with the same name, a cursory google search reveals little information. Khand-e
Tiamat was originally a Goddess and later a massive serpent that represented the chaos of all creation, but not really a "demon" per say.
LostCosmonaut
Looking around on the Secret Projects forum I found some interesting stuff about the McDonnell Model 265; https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,6933.0.html Zyklon and LoooSeR

Collimatrix
From a drag reduction standpoint, this seems like a sensible idea. What went wrong?
LostCosmonaut
Concerns about cooling and the complexity of the drivetrain, I think. Also, it would have been McDonnell's first plane, so the design was probably a bit rough in the details.
Xlucine
The resonances in the shafts would have been an interesting problem to deal with

Meplat
Still the plane I remember the most. A F-4 Phantom, to me, just looks right. And witnessing one shitting soot and fire while standing vertical on a column of pure stink and noise trying to avoid hitting the church steeple across from the home I grew up in, is something I'll never forget.
