  1. Interesting that they're driving it. Bovington sealed theirs up because the Japanese put asbestos lining in for insulation. So as the vehicle aged, that lining has deteriorated and thus made the inside hazardous. I imagine the vehicle above would have had that asbestos removed during its renovation.
  2. Indeed related to the Type 74. From what I've gathered, it is a test rig for the prototype, the STB-1, and not a driver training vehicle. It certainly looks like it would be one though.
  3. PT-76M should be this thing: The English wiki does say something about at PT-85 (not the Obj. 906 apparently) with a cast turret that supposedly was used during the invasion of Czechoslovakia. The above mystery vehicles looks like its turret might be cast, but I can't tell for certain. The only dubious citation on the wiki is from Jedsite and I haven't been able to find anything on the Russian part of the web mentioning such a vehicle.
  4. 2S18 Pat-S, an experimental precursor to the 2S31. Armament was a SA61 152mm howitzer.
  5. A note for others that if the image links here don't work, they come up fine if you click the link.
  6. I don't think the concern was with the whole museum potentially going up, just the slim chance of a single vehicle experiencing issues when driving at some event, having a fire, and then being ruined. Pretty sure I heard it in a video seminar by the National Armor and Cavalry Hertige Foundation on the status of the collection, but I haven't been able to find it as of now. But yes, money definitely has to be the main reason most of the stuff is not receiving more than a cleanup and paintjob for static display. Edit: This was the video I had in mind, with talk on the subject here starting at 6:18
  7. The single player in Red Dragon takes the form of a few campaigns (4?) on different grand maps. There's a narrative of events going on and you are given different army groups (ranging in size from a flight of fighters to a tank company) that you can move around the map. Objectives and available units will update occasionally. The actual battles though are skirmishes that generally involve the AI spamming one type of unit at a time down a single road at you on the battle map. This was the one big reason I never played much of it. I believe the campaigns do take a bit of time to actually complete. In Steel Division Normandy 44, the campaigns are just a series of four missions for divisions of three factions (US 101st airborne, German 21st Panzer, and British 15th Scots). These missions are basically secure or hold this objective, with some scripted events in place. Unit attrition through the campaign is a thing, so you don't want to waste stuff. In the Back to Hell DLC, they add like six 'historical' battles with unique battlegroups, and you can choose to play either side and division. All these again are take/hold this objective, but there are no scripted events. Between the two, I would personally pick Steel Division over Red Dragon for the single player content. This is mainly due to the AI, as the RD one is spammy while the SD44 one will actually spread out a bit more on the map and use more of a variety of units. SD44 also has one more game mode to play in skrimish mode against the AI (Attack/Defense mode, on top of Destruction deathmatch and Conquest territorial control for both games), so that's another point in my mind for it. RD does have all of its campaigns and more factions available without purchasing DLC though. The deck system in it also has a greater degree of freedom for army building, so you can make more specific or silly battles if you like. Whether you want to play in the Cold War or World War 2 is also something to consider. I haven't paid too much attention to Steel Division 2, which takes place on during Operation Bagration and places a lot more emphasis on the grand campaign, but it seems to be getting a somewhat lukewarm reception. Unfortunate to see, but not really surprising knowing Eugen's track record. People just want them to make another Wargame. I'll probably pick up the Witcher 3 while it's discounted, but I don't know if I'll get around to playing it at all for a little bit. I'll assume that if my PC can run Dark Souls 3 and Doom alright, it will be fine with the Witcher too.
  8. The price seems right with that discount and I would recommend it. I wouldn't say it's worth it at full price anymore, especially with the player base having diminished greatly since release two(?) years ago. Who knows though, it might jump a good bit for a time with the sale. Have you played any of the Wargame series? If so, it's similar enough to that. If not, Red Dragon is on sale too for $7.49. It's cheaper and has a much more active player base from what I recall. There's a bit more single player content in the base game compared to Steel Division (more single player missions in Back to Hell DLC though), however the Red Dragon AI isn't very fun to play against. On a related note, I assume The Witcher III being on say for $12 makes it much more of a "Get now" for someone that has never played it, yes?
  9. If I recall right, they also weren't wanting to completely restore the majority of their vehicles because a live engine would be a potential liability for a fire, and they don't want to lose historical vehicles that in some cases are the only surviving examples.
  10. Churchill NA 75 conversion using Sherman gun and mantlet to correct the deficiencies in the Churchill Mk IV's armament and frontal turret protection.
  11. Researchers Capture First Imagery of Giant Squid in U.S. Waters
  12. Yes. The gas engined Pattons were thirsty machines, so a stopgap solution when traveling was to add fuel drums to the back.
  13. Do you have any more info or pictures on this thing? I'm kind of assuming it's a Vena turret on a tracked trailer, similar to how they did things with the Pantsir and Tor.
  14. Tried that and some other things without any success so far. The game will freeze at any point between immediate startup and the character creation menu (the farthest I've got before freezing.) Only way out is to open the task manager and close it from there.
  15. @Oedipus Wreckx-n-Effect I impulsively bought DS3 while it was on sale. $20 for the game and both DLCs is a steal. Unfortunately the game has crashed near immediately every time I've tried to play it and I have no idea why.
