Yes. I think the forward mast came down somewhat early on. For reference and for anyone that can't tell, those burn holes are in the roof of the ship's island superstructure, not the flight deck
News and updates from the Navy
So it seems maybe it's not near a total loss, but that sure isn't going to be a quick or cheap fix.

Something related to welding or maintenance seems most likely as the cause to me, but who knows with the social/political climate we have now. Time will tell.

Quick update on the Argentina-Stryker thing: as i suspected from the beginning, its not gonna happen. Turns out that it was the previous, shitty M*cri administration (not gonna write his name, brings bad luck) which during literally its final hours requested the Strykers. The current Fernandez administration (which has not yet proven themselves to be any less shitty) stopped the whole thing. Word now is that the government wants to buy chinese VN-1 instead which are more modern than the Stryker while costing a fraction of its price. Perhaps there is a chance for some local manufacturing of parts.

Scolopax reacted to Slakrrrrrr in French flair
Some people know about the French ERAC (Engin de Reconnaissance Amphibie de Combat), not to be confused with Engin de Réaction Anti-Chars:
It's an amphibious light tank from the early '60s, but apparently it didn't end with this vehicle. New photos have been added somewhat recently on chars-francais.net of a second, albeit similar vehicle:
No additional information is revealed, but the mounted gun is quite obviously larger than on the first one. Both vehicles are labeled "ERAC 105mm", yet the website claims the gun to be the 90mm DEFA D 914.

You are falling short with that description. But its not only that. Militarly a vehicle like that doesn´t make any sense for its weight and terrain crossing capabilities. Our tanks don´t weight more than 30 tons for good reason and they are tracked. Besides the strykers are going to be impossible to maintain, just buying enough parts for more than 2 years would be a historical achievement. Most likely in 5-10 years if the Strykers are brought here, they are going to be cannibalized for parts or for the black market. "Big" weapons/equipment acquisition, even for civilian use, from overseas has always been problematic and riddled with corruption.
Besides, its going to be very difficult for the government to sell this to the public and many more things are more important and urgent than military expenditures. Things are really really bad here.
Just as a reminder/example: the contracts for the TAM modernization program have been signed almost a decade ago and no single tank has been updated. Fishy stuff going on behind the scenes. The last government (which was a particularly shitty government if i might say so) tried to buy junk Super Etendards from France and it didn´t go well. Most likely this is going to end just the same.

Scolopax reacted to Laser Shark in NM-116: Norwegian Super Chaffee
Recently refurbished NM-116 outside the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum in Oslo:
Some info:
This vehicle is part of the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum's collection, and has been on display at Setermoen for several years, despite being in need of refurbishment. Major Geir Lyftingsmo (Chief of vehicles and engineering equipment at the Norwegian Armed Forces Museums) organized a collaborative project between Panservenner ("friends of armoured vehicles"), the Historical Military Vehicles Association (HMKF), Veteran meets Veteran and the Norwegian Armed Forces Museum, and on July 2, a newly refurbished NM-116 was handed over to the museum.
Torgeir Løvold, chairman of Panservenner, says the project was successful, and that over 400 hours have been spent on the job. The project required tenacity and patience. The museum would like to thank everyone involved for their efforts. A thanks also goes to the Norwegian Armed Forces competence center for logistics and operational support (FKL) for the transport of the vehicle.
Following the success of this project, the partners have already embarked on the next project, an NM135 which they plan to make ready for the next Veteran's Day.

Scolopax reacted to LoooSeR in The Soviet Tank Thread: Transversely Mounted 1000hp Engines
MGTT-LBU is replacement for MT-LB, a general purpose towing tractor/tracked vehicle for everyday work / secondary "jobs". MT-LBs were used for so lond because they have their role and niche, and army wanted something similar, but new and in production.
