LoooSeR
Better view on Fused-Ground Panoramic Night Vision Goggle. FOV - 97 degr. https://www.shephardmedia.com/news/special-operations/sofic-2019-l3-unveils-new-goggle-design/ Quote “This is the first public demonstration of the new generation of NVGs,” explained Lynn Marie Bollengier, vice president and general manager of military engineering solutions at L3 Technologies Inc., “Before this system, this particular customer would have to choose between having a squared wide field of view system or having a 40 degree field of view fusion system, with a long wave thermal overlay component. So what we've done is combine those two capabilities so this customer doesn’t have to choose anymore. They get both wide field of view and a thermal overlay.” Also, Lynn Marie Bollengier added that, like other thermal fusion goggles, this brings in a long wave thermal image to a color micro display inside the goggle. So the user could get a good detection with that thermal as well as extremely high resolution wide field of view. ” Bollefrood also said that one of the key functions of F-Pano is the augmented reality system, F-Pano is connected to the network and interacts with the Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) system that runs on end-user devices. “We have developed a plugin for ATAK, which allows the user to decide exactly what information from ATAK he wants to see in his NVG” she said. She also noted that this NVD is being developed as a modular system, i.e. some modules can be simply disconnected from the NVD. She added: "It was specifically designed so that this NVD could be as flexible as the end user needs." She acknowledged that the thermal imaging sensor installed in the F-Pano increases the weight of the night vision device, which indicates the need for weight reduction work. Very tight schedules of the company show that the tests of the system should take place this summer, including the augmented reality system itself. "In the end, we will be able to get feedback from specific customers about this system."

Mighty_Zuk
IDF is getting a new personal sight for commanders down to platoon level, coupled with augmented reality, day and night vision modes (higher latency in day mode for some reason), and a BMS interface that will allow the users to see friendly and enemy forces, call for fire support on specific targets, and even chat with other users. This seems to be a variant of Rafael's Fire Weaver which works by the same concept of fire requests rather than simple designation, and an AR-based interface. Tanks have their own derivative system, which also shows the tanks' vital data like available ammunition, or maintenance issues, to determine which tank is ready or not ready for maneuver and which tank can fulfill a firing mission at the moment. The whole system weighs 6kg, with most of the weight owed to the batteries. Lord_James

LoooSeR
Quote TSAMTO, July 17th. The first deputy general director - deputy for research and development and innovative development of Shvabe holding Sergey Popov told the National Defense magazine about what the SWIR-camera is and in what areas it is used. - Sergey Viktorovich, what is the technology underlying the SWIR camera, how promising is it? - SWIR-camera appeared quite recently - about four years ago, and in fact at the same time both in Russia and abroad. The camera renders the infrared image in the shortwave part of the infrared range from 0.9 to 1.7 microns. The main difference from thermal imaging is that the imager's matrix perceives the object's own thermal radiation, and in the SWIR camera the image is formed, as in the visible range, from the light reflected by the object. Therefore, a user-friendly image is obtained, which contains the whole picture, almost as in ordinary video shooting. The range of 0.9-1.7 microns is the range of the glow of the night sky. We do not notice this, but the upper layer of the ionosphere re-radiates cosmic radiation at precisely this wavelength. Therefore, it seems to man that in the dark nothing can be seen at all, but the reflection of cosmic radiation from objects still exists. This is what the SWIR camera matrix reads. The peculiarity of the SWIR-camera is that it allows you to identify masked objects: people in camouflage uniforms, equipment in camouflage coloring in a situation when they are not visible in the visible range. We looked at various patterns of equipment with the help of a SWIR-camera and it turned out that NATO camouflage reflects more strongly in this range and in fact, a person in camouflage form, who is in the forest, looks like a polar bear in the SWIR range, against the background of the forest where in visible range they are not visible. Camouflage nets and other similar means of masking become virtually useless. - Are we talking about synthetic materials and fabrics with a mixed composition? - Mostly yes. SWIR range allows you to see in the fog. You can also see objects in the smoke/"spray" screens. I will emphasize - not in all varieties, a SWIR-camera is not a panacea for all types of masking using smoke or aerosol, but some of them are completely permeable for this technology. Another important advantage of the SWIR-camera is a brighter reproduction of objects with high temperature. For example, it is difficult to consider the focus of a forest fire in conditions of heavy smoke. Through the SWIR-camera, the fire focus is clearly visible. SWIR cameras allow you to see what is behind certain types of plastic, for example, you can read a document in a plastic folder, you can see who is in a car with fully tinted glass. - What are the design features of a SWIR camera? - The main feature is that the near-infrared range does not require deep cooling of the photodetector, and this causes low power consumption. Therefore, the design of the SWIR-camera turned out to be very compact - without a lens, it weighs just over 100 grams. This makes it easy to expand the area of its application by placing on unmanned aerial vehicles, including small ones, such as the quadrocopter ORION-DRONE, which we showed at an exhibition in Istanbul. - At what stage is the SWIR camera development project today? - Today, there is already mass production, and it is at the level of the photodetector material - and this is a very high-tech area, before the formation of a matrix of 640x512 pixels with a pixel size of 15 microns is a good television resolution. The manufacturer is engaged in the production of the state scientific center of the Russian Federation as part of the holding NGO "Orion". That is, the camera is actually used in practice by consumers. - In what areas are used SWIR-cameras developed by the holding "Shvabe"? - First, they are already being used, complementing the existing optical-electronic systems of observation, aiming and piloting. There is a development of sights based on a SWIR camera. For the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a system with a camera is being developed to search for a seat of fire or to move in smoke. In general, we believe that this is a very promising direction. - The fact that the emergence of technology and the creation of a SWIR camera occurred within a holding structure, influenced the final result? - I think that we would not be able to make a SWIR-camera if those enterprises that are involved in this project would be independent or belong to different integrated structures.
