Belesarius
So my Galaxy S II which I got used a couple of years back is about to give up and die. I'm looking for input on what the best value for $ is. Was wondering if anyone around SH had any strong opinions on which handsets are the best value for money. Will probably end up spending $2-300 at the end of the month.
EnsignExpendable
The OnePlus series is 100% the best value for your money, I got the One and I'm satisfied with it in every way.

Scolopax
Don't think I can help here too much (have a Moto X and like it enough), but since this is a phone-related thread, I would like everyone to know that "Phablet" has become a common term. Belesarius
Have an LG G4 as well, not the leather back though, excellent phone. G4 seems to run about $400-600 tho. A bit expensive for a tight budget. To be clear, I'm buying the phone outright.
ApplesauceBandit
My Moto X has served me well, and my only actual complaints are the camera is shit and you can't replace the battery (mine needs a new one). It's a little on the older side of things at this point, but certainly an option for if you're on a budget. Belesarius
Walter_Sobchak
I don't know much about phones. I've had a Galaxy S5 for almost two years, it's been a good phone. A quick search shows they are going for 200-300 these days.
Belesarius
I was looking at a couple of factory refurbs for Samsung. I saw a Note 2 for about $200. Still haven't locked down exactly what I'm going to do. Another 3 weeks to go anyway.
EnsignExpendable
I used a Note 3 for work and it was trash, I doubt the predecessor is better. Maybe I was just spoiled by my enormous screen and non-crippled app launcher though.
Belesarius
So we're back to this thread again. Due to assorted circumstances, the buy didn't happen. On the up side, the budget has gone up a bit. I should have around $300 to use. Looking at S5, Note 4, Huawei P8 Lite right now. Will see what pops up on Black Friday locally. Sturgeon
I am NOT the guy to ask, but FWIW I like my LG G3, and LGs tend to be pretty inexpensive. The G4s are out now, my parents have two.

Belesarius
Economics ended up prevailing. I ended up getting a ZTE Axon. Limited usage so far, but I'm liking it a shitton more than my crappy old phone. Unfortunately, I had to get a new SIM card, as my old phone was so old it had and original SIM, as opposed to a MicroSIM or NanoSIM. This phone has a NanoSIM which is fucking tiny and hard to put in place with my fingers.
EnsignExpendable
You could have cut down a regular SIM card into the nano SIM form factor. A very small amount of the card is actually used by circuitry, the rest is just electrical contacts.
Bronezhilet
Speaking of android phones, I've been drooling all over the CAT S60 recently. I'm probably going to get that as my next phone.
That’s Suspicious
You'd probably get the most out of the Huawei Honor line, ZTE Axon, or OnePlus lineup. If you live in the U.S. Straight Talk has the Galaxy S5 for $199, which it is still a very good phone, the Galaxy S6 for $399, and the Huawei Sensa for $179. Belesarius
I ended up getting the Axon. It's been doing everything I ask of it really well. Only real downside so far is no upgradable storage, but I don't use my phone as a media server anyway, so it probably won't be an issue for a while, if at all. Also very easy to use. That’s Suspicious
I was looking at getting the Axon 7 mini as it's for sale for $199 at the moment at Best Buy. It seems to be a very solid phone. It's pretty awesome how cheap and powerful Mid-range smartphones have become.
