Syrian conflict.

Daraa-map-update.png

Lately, the Islamic State group, Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, has captured several towns and key areas from rebel forces inside the Daraa governorate. Just yesterday, ISIS captured Tasil (Taseel) from rebels, while the caliphate soldiers also managed to inflict casualty upon the local Jabhat al-Nusra leader, “Abu Adham”.

Remarkably, this ISIS group (in Arabic called Liwaa Shahada Al-Yarmouk) also entered the rebel-held towns of Tafas and Muzayrib today as the rebel line of defence seems to have utterly collapsed. Due to ongoing clashes, these towns remain contested as Islamist fighters on both sides continue to battle it out. Also, some 100 ISIS fighters have entrenched themselves inside the isolated northern districts of the town of Inkhil (north Daraa province).

Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) 38th Brigade of the 5th Division, the SAA’s 15th Brigade of the 7th Division along with the National Defence Forces (NDF) of Daraa watch all these events from afar without suffering a single casualty. Despite temporary passiveness, government troops have captured Al-Naymah and Itman suburbs in Daraa city along with the strategic city of Sheikh Miskeen, all within the past two months.

Also, with the government capture of 50% the Daraa Al-Balad district (Daraa city) some 40 days ago, insurgents now face losses all across the province of Daraa. With a ceasefire settled in Geneva, skirmishes in the Daraa governorate have largely halted in the past 30 days.

However, ISIS never agreed to peace with any factions and as such, have begun this major offensive mainly against rebels of the Free Syrian Army and Jabhat al-Nusra. Due to the majority of Islamist rebels being deployed on the frontline with government soldiers, ISIS has been able to attack rebel forces from behind (the west) and capture several key towns with relative ease. The Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade gained attention world-wide when the militia abducted 21 Filipino UN soldiers back in March, 2013. At the time, their fighters were loyal to Jabhat al-Nusra; however, with Abu al-Baghdadi proclaiming the Islamic State caliphate in the summer of 2014, the leaders of Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade were quick to give ba’yah (show allegiance) to the caliph of ISIS. Thus, the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade is actually spawned out of rebel ranks and was formerly considered part of the Syrian opposition.

Now, they intend to expel all rebel forces from Daraa province for good. However, as to link up with ISIS areas in eastern and northern Syria, they must also capture dozens of large towns from government forces that seem completely unwilling to surrender the Daraa governorate to ISIS. If rebel fighters do in fact experience defeat to ISIS inside Daraa governorate, they will suffer an intolerable blow to their morale as Daraa city represents the very first city which saw protests in all of Syria.

Breaking: Syrian Army, Hezbollah liberate the Palmyra Triangle

At approximately 11:45 P.M. (Damascus Time) on Tuesday night, the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – backed by Hezbollah, the Desert Hawks Brigade, Liwaa Imam ‘Ali (Iraqi paramilitary), and the Syrian Marines – imposed full control over the Palmyra (Tadmur) Triangle after advancing east from Jabal Hiyyal.

According to a battlefield correspondent embedded in the Palmyra countryside, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies liberated this strategic area after a fierce battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham tonight. The source added that the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies suffered minimal casualties, while the ISIS terrorists lost an estimated 20-30 combatants before their positions were overran by the government forces.

With the Palmyra Triangle under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces are now within striking distance of Palmyra; this is also the closest that the government forces have been to this city since their complete withdrawal on May 21st, 2015.

Meanwhile, north of the Palmyra Triangle, the Tiger Forces and Desert Hawks are pressing ISIS’ defenses at Jabal Al-Tar; they are reportedly close to capturing this important mountaintop in western Palmyra.

On Tuesday night, the Red Cross, United Nations, and Syrian Red Crescent entered the Al-Houla Plains in northern Homs to provide humanitarian relief to the beleaguered civilians still living inside this war-torn area.

According to a source in Damascus, the humanitarian relief convoy has delivered aid to this besieged area for the first time in nearly 9 months.

Previously, these convoys were unable to enter the Al-Houla Plains due to the ongoing battle between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and rebel forces; however, the recent ceasefire agreement has changed the situation.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah storm Jabal Al-Tar in western Palmyra

The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – alongside Hezbollah, the Desert Hawks Brigade, and the Syrian Marines – captured the Palmyra (Tadmur) Triangle after a violent battle with the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) on Tuesday.

Following the liberation of the Palmyra Triangle, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah shifted their attention to the Al-Dawah front, where they continued their advance at the Al-Tar Mountains (Jabal Al-Tar) in order to encircle the aforementioned village (Al-Dawah) in Palmyra’s western countryside.

So far, they have been able to capture the western slope of Jabal Al-Tar; however, they are facing fierce resistance from the ISIS terrorists protecting this strategic mountaintop.

With dusk approaching the Homs Desert, the battles for the ancient cities of Quraytayn and Palmyra will likely intensify, as the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies take advantage of the darkness in order to attack ISIS’ defenses.

Syrian Army, Hezbollah storming Semiramis Hotel in west Palmyra: map update

palmyra-update-.1.jpg

The Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces – backed by the Desert Hawks, Hezbollah, and Syrian Marines – launched a night invasion at the western outskirts of Palmyra (Tadmur), targeting the strategic Semiramis Hotel that is currently under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

According to an Al-Masdar field correspondent, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah are currently 70 meters away from the southwestern perimeter of the Semiramis Hotel. Similar to the Qatari Royal Villa, the Semiramis Hotel has been turned into a well-fortified military installation for ISIS; it is also used as the aforementioned terrorist group’s barracks.

If the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah are successful in liberating the Semiramis Hotel from the ISIS terrorists, they will be in position to enter the Palmyra Orchards for the first time since their large-scale retreat from this ancient city on May 21st, 2015.

While the Syrian Armed Forces focus on the Semiramis Hotel, the Russian Air Force is blitzing ISIS’ supply route that leads to the nearby town of Al-Sukhanah. The Russian Air Force has already carried out 20+ airstrikes tonight; this number is likely to skyrocket in the coming hours as the battle intensifies.
