  1. By 2015, the Germans were reduced to crewing their Toyota Yaris fleet with barely trained teenagers.
  2. Jeez, those guys at Osprey Publishing work fast. Duel 198: Challenger 2 vs Toyota Yaris
  3. I always figured the key to a good Mel Brooks movie is Gene Wilder. His presence in the films helps add a bit of class and tone down Brooks tendency to going full on cheesy/campy.
  4. It could have used more Gary Busey.
  5. At first glance I read the title as "Sharks with boners." I suppose that would have changed the content of the article considerably.
  6. If we get in a ground war with ISIS, I doubt the rules of war will be observed after the first video surfaces of a US serviceman getting his head sawed off or burnt alive in a cage. Kinda like how many SS were shot on sight rather than being taken prisoner after word of the Malmedy massacre got around.
  7. I'll have to send that clip to my sister in law, she runs the cadaver lab at a nearby university. I suspect that clip will make her laugh.
  8. I thought the article had a few interesting points but also some stuff where the author was a bit off base. I really doubt the Merkava had any influence on the T-14 design at all. Some days I find better stuff to post than others....
  9. I wonder how much of this they pay for out of their own pocket and how much of it is paid for by either direct US military aid or loans which will later be forgiven.
  10. I'm not going to comment in that thread anymore. I don't see any point in it. Time for it to be locked.
  11. One thing I found a bit surprising in the Mad Max film was the use of a tracked vehicle. When it appeared onscreen, the first thing I thought of was the "ripsaw" tracked vehicle that has been in the news lately. Turns out I was right, they makers of the Ripsaw are the ones that built the vehicle for the film. Personally, I am a bit annoyed with all the media coverage the Ripsaw gets. First off, it's not really all that hard to make a high speed tracked vehicle when you don't have any armor or weapons on it. Walter Christie did the same thing 80 years ago. I really wish the media would stop calling it a tank. It's all a bit of marketing bullshit.
  12. I hate to say it, but the Iraqi army does not deserve a vehicle as magnificent at the Abrams.
  13. Seriously, if feminism is what was depicted in the new Mad Max movie, then sign me up. Male characters and female characters teamed up to beat the bad guys and make their world a better place. And lots of awesome car crashes happened. What's not to like?
  14. That, and our acknowledgement of the secret of steel.
  15. I actually like Brian Johnson AC/DC more. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help myself.
  16. I just realized that the Motley Crue song "Dr. Feelgood" has basically the same guitar hook at the earlier AC/DC song "Night of the Long Knives." It also occurred to me that "Night of the Long Knives" is a really terrible concept to base a song on. Seriously, read the lyrics. Is the song supposed to be from the perspective or Ernst Rohm or something? Or did AC/DC just hear the phrase somewhere and figure it sounded bad-ass? Night Of The Long Knives Angus Young - Malcolm Young - Brian Johnson who your leader who your man who will help you fill your hand who's your friend and who's your foe who's your Judas you don't know night of the long knives night of the long knives night of the long knives night of the long long knife where's that saviour where's that light when your prayin' for your life who's that fightin' back to back who's defending who's attack night of the long knives night of the long knives night of the long knives night of the long long knife stab him in the back it’s the night of the long knives night of the long knives night of the long knives it's the night of the long long knife it's the night of the night of the night of the long long knife
  17. Today I was reminded of the 1982 film "The Forbidden Zone" directed by Richard Elfman (brother to famous film score composer Danny Elfman).
  18. Gonna go see Mad Max tomorrow. I will brace myself for all the post-apocalyptic feminism.
  19. Does AC/DC count as a guilty pleasure or are they just a regular old pleasure?
  20. I thought we were defined by our hatred of wehraboos?
  21. Random thought: I wonder if some day Osprey will publish a book in their "Duel" series called "T-64 vs T-72: Ukraine 2015."
  22. A while back I had posted an old article from ARMOR magazine by Ogorkiewicz on the Merkava II. Ogorkiewicz seems to think rather highly of the vehicle. In his latest book he lists General Tal as one of his professional acquaintances. When I was a young lad, the Merkava was one of the first plastic model kits I had. My dad got me the kit, he was all excited about the Merkava since Israel was one of Continental Motors biggest customers. After the US Army decided to go with a gas turbine for the M1, Israel's continued use of the AVDS-1790 became very important to keeping the engine plant in business. I remember my dad invited an Israeli Colonel and Major over for dinner once. I was too young to ask any intelligent questions. Still, it was a bit out of the ordinary for us to have dinner guests with personal stories of the Yom Kipper war.
