I think I found the answer.

During the period we're talking about, all of Canada and all of Alaska were both unlive-in-able.  Considerable portions were still under glaciers.

The actual inhabitable parts of North America had different ecosystems than they do now.  A lot more of it was covered in conifers, so what are now the Great Plains was probably more taiga-like, according to ancient pollen records.

So, basically, Alaska and Canada were all Greenland, and Nebraska was Wisconsin.

Probably most of those people in canoes said "nope!" and kept moving until they hit South America, which was the first place that didn't suck.

An SSGN is different enough in a strategic sense from an SSBN that a new class name is in order.  Since this will be essentially a companion class to the Colombia class, I move that it be named the Magenta class.

When an AR-18 is closed up, the two guide rods fit snugly into holes in the trunnion:

And the trunnions are connected at the back, since they are both welded to a common plate.

This means that the movement of the bolt carrier is controlled by the rods, and the rods are hooked into the trunnion at the front and to the plate at the back.  The position and timing of moving parts in the AR-18 is almost completely unaffected by the receiver.  Only the fire control group and magazine rely on the receiver being well-toleranced.

Now, according to this book, the sales strategy for the AR-18 was that the trunnion, barrel, and a few other high-precision machined parts would be made in the US or UK, while various other countries could buy a license to manufacture the rifle and would make the other parts.

Reading in-between the lines, this was a way to concentrate the important tolerances and quality control into a few parts of the rifle; namely all the parts that would be made in first world countries.

There isn't much to tell other than what I have already told. These are very small missiles that are reportedly usually carried by UAVs (such as Hermes 450), and are launched at targets that are either about to be bombed (several minutes), or as warning in a general way, such as to avoid bunching up or that certain areas are dangerous.

If you want to look up for more info on your own, your best bet would be "Knock On The Roof Protocol".

It was also often criticized for providing combatants with a warning that the IDF knows their location and is about to bomb, giving them plenty of time to flee. But I think, and the IDF thinks as well, that this is a worthwhile risk.

Sonic booms are still somewhat of a thing. One of these above the house of a prominent Hamas leader will give him a good spook. Although these only happen when things escalate pretty badly.

EDIT: There are plenty of Youtube videos if you search "knock on the roof" that show this in action. I would link some but I am on my phone and it is nap time.

The turret base does protrude by about 6-12" or so above the roofline (don't be fooled by the fake roof that's stood off the hull, this is visible on the bow gunners hatches), which would save a small but significant amount of weight. Holding a ruler up the screen I figure it's about 0.3-0.6 m^2, so something on the order of a tonne for a 2.4 t/m^2 armour array (random number, corresponds to 30cm solid steel so around the right ballpark). This is just a ballpark for the frontal armour, the upper row of side armour could also probably be dispensed with for a flatter turret saving further weight.

Xlucine reacted to Sturgeon in United States Gun Control Megathread
Those of you who have heard me talk about it before (most people in this thread, in other words) know that I believe the USA is more pro-gun than ever before in its modern history. Not only that, but I think the DNC is broke, leaderless, off-message, and failing to keep together its disparate constituents as a result. Aggravating this, the Democratic leadership has chosen to make gun control a major issue for the 2018 midterms, despite it always being a weak issue for them historically. Because of this, I expect significant losses for the Democrats in November, and significant gains for Trump-leaning Republicans.

Despite these obvious (to me) facts, the American pro-gun movement has decided to entrench itself and play defense as they have always done. Much more wise in my opinion would be to go on the offense, pushing back existing gun regulations and promoting the kind of legal reforms that would be most attractive to American gun owners. Early next year, when all the fresh new pro-Trump Republicans have taken their seats, would be the natural time to push legislation for things like:

Deregulating short barreled rifles and shotguns
    Deregulating suppressors
Formalizing an exception for shotguns in destructive device (DD) laws
    Concealed carry reciprocity
    National "assault weapon" legalization
    NFA and GCA reforms
    Opening the machine gun registry

    and others.

Such a plan would use simultaneous, coordinated bills to confuse and overwhelm the antis, going behind their lines to enact reforms in their major command centers, like Massachusetts and California. Confused, discredited, and clearly incapable of any political gains whatsoever, the gun control machine would sputter and collapse, forever.   We'd call it: The Spring '19 Offensive.
