Syrian conflict.

For years, numerous Middle Eastern analysts and other academics consciously believed that a sort of “alliance exists between Assad and ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi”.

Which analysts are these?  Because they are retarded.

Yeah, the super Koran-only new Caliphate people who take joy in blowing up Shia shrines and pagan temples and enslaving Yazidis girls would ally themselves with ghulat Alawites.

Sure, that makes sense.  Wait, no, that makes no sense at all and is the dumbest thing I've heard all day.

It makes plenty of sense if you posses any sort of strategic thinking and are willing to sell out your own people to stay in power. If Assad and ISIS destroy the rebels and Kurds the world is basically forced to pick between him or ISIS.

The Syrian government collaborates with ISIS to operate refineries and power plants. The Syrian air force (much like the Turks and Russians) has just happened to coincidentally bomb FSA/Kurdish positions either under attack by ISIS or right before they were attacked. The evidence is plain enough that the Syrian government is working with ISIS when it suits them.

And please, tell me more about Russian Air forces bombing Kurds. Recent YPG/SDF forces push to Tishrin Dam was supported by air support including VKS strikes.

Syrian Army back on offensive in Sheikh Miskeen: 20+ buildings captured

For 6 straight days, the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nasra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) attempted to recapture the imperative Battalion 82 Housing Facility inside the city of Sheikh Miskeen in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside; however, they were repelled every single time by the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division.

Following the last infiltration attempt at the housing facility by the Islamist rebels on Friday, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) went on the offensive, striking Jabhat Al-Nusra’s frontline defenses before sunrise on Saturday morning. Not long after they launched the preliminary assault on Jabhat Al-Nusra’s defenses, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and the National Defense Forces were joined by the elite 7th Mechanized Division; this provided them the necessary personnel boost to penetrate through the Islamist rebel defenses and enter the southern district of Sheikh Miskeen.

According to a military source at the 5th Amored Division’s headquarters in the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Armed Forces seized 20 buildings that were occupied by the Islamist rebels, including a command-and-control center. The firefights sporadically continued throughout the night; however, they are likely to start back up as the Syrian Air Force continues its devastating aerial campaign above the cities of Sheikh Miskeen and Nawa.

Breaking: Syrian Army storms mountains surrounding strategic town of Salma

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard and their allies captured several villages in the Kurdish Mountains of northeastern Latakia yesterday; this paved the way for the pro-government forces to conduct a massive assault along the mountains bordering the strategic town of Salma this morning.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and the Syrian Resistance – launched several attacks along the western flank of Salma this morning, striking the area that is situated to the north of the recently captured village of Kadeen in Jabal Al-Akrad. Accoridng to a military source in northeastern Latakia, the Syrian Armed Forces began their assault by launching a barrage of mortar shells and rockets towards the western flank of Salma, while their allies from the Russian Air Force conduct a number of air raids to soften the Islamist rebel defenses.

It is highly unlikely that the Syrian Armed Forces will enter Salma from the western flank today; however, they have made it clear to the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) that they have every intention of attacking this strategic town soon.

Breaking: Syrian Army captures Al-Bilaliyah in rural Damascus

On Saturday, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade of the Republican Guard – in close coordination with the 416th Regiment and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – launched a large-scale offensive around the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport, attacking the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and Jaysh Al-Islam (Army of Islam) at 4 different axes.

The following day, the Syrian Armed Forces entered the small village of Al-Bilaliyah at the eastern perimeter of the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport, seizing most of the farms inside of it before sundown on Sunday night. Earlier this morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade and their allies finally imposed full control over the entire village, killing an estimated 20 enemy combatants during their impressive advance from the Marj Al-Sultan Military Airport’s eastern perimeter.

With Al-Bilaliyah under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces will now divert their attention to the 3 other villages surrounding the strategic airport; specifically, they will be targeting the small village of Al-Nashabiyah, which is situated at the northeastern perimeter of the Marj Al-Sultan village.

Most of these villages the Syrian Armed Forces are attacking in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus were captured by the Islamist rebels in mid-2012; these farms are mostly abandoned and have had their resources plundered by the Islamists.

SAA continue to make things worse for Eastern Ghouta group of islamists.

Tiger Forces enter Al-Bab Plateau after seizing village of Ayishah

On Sunday night in the Aleppo Governorate’s eastern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s elite special operation division known as the “Tiger Forces” continued their march north towards the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) stronghold of Al-Bab after a violent battle at the village of Najarah all week long.

For second time in nearly two weeks, the Tiger Forces – in close coordination with the Russian Air Force – carried out a surprise night operation to catch the ISIS terrorists in east Aleppo off-guard. This once again worked out to the Syrian Arab Army’s advantage, as the terrorist group was unable to quickly respond to the ferocious military assault. As a result of this surprise assault in east Aleppo, the ISIS fighters entrenched at the small village of ‘Ayishah (south of Al-Bab) were quickly overrun by a contingent comprised of soldiers from the Tiger Forces and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), who used the cover of night to infiltrate the terrorist group’s defenses en route to the capture of this site.

With the capture of ‘Ayishah tonight, the Tiger Forces are within 4 villages of the ISIS-controlled city of Al-Bab, marking the first time since 2012 that the government forces have entered this plateau. The Tiger Forces are knocking on the door of Deir Hafer and Al-Bab; the two cities that have been under ISIS’ control since they forced the Islamist rebels to abandon them in late 2013.

If i understand SAA tactics well enough, SAA will not push to Al-Bab, but will strike in different area, probably trying to take control of the southern area. They can't go to the west, as ISIS threatened to destroy Aleppo powerstation, a critical infrastructure object in this area (can be seen on the map).

Syrian Army surrounds the rebel stronghold of Salma from 3 sides

In a matter of 48 hours, the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) have watched the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard, the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) quickly surround their long-standing stronghold of Salma in the Latakia Governorate’s northeastern countryside.

On Sunday morning, Al-Masdar News reported the powerful assault launched by the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade; however, this was only the beginning of what turned out to be one of the largest attacks conducted by the pro-government forces at the strategic town of Salma in the Kurdish Mountains (Jabal Al-Akrad). According to a battlefield source embedded with the Republican Guard in Jabal Al-Akrad, the Syrian Armed Forces imposed full control over Wadi Nabi’ Miro (Valley of the Prophet Miro) at the eastern flank of Salma, leaving them in position to strike the aforementioned town from three different axes  in Jabal Al-Akrad. In addition to their capture of Wadi Nabi’ Miro, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies (specifically, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party) imposed full control over mountain Point 867, which is located to the east of the aforementioned valley that is situated at Salma’s eastern flank.

Much of the Syrian Arab Army’s success in northeastern Latakia is due in large part to the Russian Air Force, who continuously provides the pro-government forces with much needed air cover.

Assault on Salma from south would be almost impossible to complete - because of hill slope and location of buildings is very awkward for the attackers. They decided to take longer, but easier way.

Yeah, not very good way to assault this town from south.

According to reports, currently Salma is surrounded from 3 sides, parts of city are under fire control.

Breaking: the Syrian Army resumes the southern Aleppo offensive

Moments ago in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 43rd and 154th Brigades of the elite 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF), Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions), and the Palestinian pro-government milita “Liwaa Al-Quds” (Jerusalem Brigade) – launched a large-scale military operation at the strategic town of Al-Rashiddeen after halting operations there in early December.

According to a senior officer from the 4th Mechanized Division in the Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces are currently attacking the 4th and 5th Precincts of Al-Rashiddeen, where they are attempting to force out the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham, and Harakat Nourideen Al-Zinki from the town’s parameters.

If Al-Rashiddeen is captured by the Syrian Armed Forces, they will have effectively positioned themselves for the long-awaited assault on the town of Khan Al-Assal. Khan Al-Assal was captured by the Islamist rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Liwaa Al-Tawheed in late 2013; they would summarily execute over 30 unarmed Syrian Arab Army soldiers after seizing the town.

The purpose of recapturing Khan Al-Assal is to  sweep to the western countryside of the provincial capital; this entire area (predominately Mount Simeon) is controlled by the Islamist rebels.

Let's see how it will develop.

Syrian Army seizes several building blocks inside of Sheikh Miskeen

On Monday morning in the Dara’a Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade of the 5th Armored Division – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the SAA’s 7th Mechanized Division – captured a dozen building blocks inside of Sheikh Miskeen’s southern district after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

This advance at Sheikh Miskeen comes just 24 hours after the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and their allies captured a total of 17 buildings at the northern rim of the city’s southern district. Currently, the Syrian Armed Forces control between 75-80 percent of Sheikh Miskeen, leaving only the southern district left to capture; however, this is no easy task, as the Islamsit rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army are heavily embedded in the remaining buildings.

Helping the Syrian Arab Army from above is the Russian Air Force, who continuously bombards the Islamist rebels with a number of airstrikes along the Nawa-Sheikh Miskeen Road.

If the Syrian Arab Army’s 15th Brigade and their allies are successful in taking control of Sheikh Miskeen, they will be in position to strike the second largest city in the Dara’a Governorate: Nawa.
