Top Nusra commander mysteriously escapes the embattled Daraa

Former leader and judge of Syria’s al-Qaeda branch, Jabhet al-Nusra, Abu Maria al-Qahtani, has reportedly left Daraa to the Nusra-held districts of Idlib and Hama to the north, anti-government sources said.

The same sources confirmed that al-Qahtani, along with 180 Nusra fighters and their families, arrived at their destination. A secret deal was allegedly concluded with the Syrian government to secure safe corridors for the ultra-hardline fighters to leave the southern city of Daraa. Al-Qahtani took the leadership of Jabhet al-Nusra in Daraa coming from the northeastern city of Deir ez-Zor accompanied by hundreds of fighters and their families, following a rift with the group’s Emir Abu Mohammed al-Jolani.

The authenticity of such information has not been verified by Al-Masdar News.

Major agreements and deals have been recently concluded between the Syrian government and armed groups in various locations across Syria concurrently with fierce escalation of military operations in other contested areas. These agreements and deals are viewed differently by both warring parties, whose foreign backers are evidently involved in such tactics.

Only two days ago, some 70 wounded rebel fighter escorted with their families (126 in total), left the besieged town of Zabadani (near borders with Lebanon) to Lebanon, where they will be eventually taken to Turkey. At the same time, nearly 300 pro-government fighters and civilians were transported from the two Shia-populate towns of Fuaa and Kafraya in Idlib province. The deal was brokered by Iran and Turkey.

A similar UN-brokered deal was supposed to transport 4000 Islamist militants with their families (including ISIS jihadis) from the rebel-held district of Yarmouk Refugee Camp to the group’s de facto capital of Al-Raqqa. However, the evacuation was delayed as a Syrian airstrikes killed Zahran Alloush, commander of the Saudi-backed Jaysh Al-Islam militia in Eastern Ghouta.

The hidden objectives of Syria’s government from patronizing such agreements are still unknown. However, analysts believe the Syrian Army’s military escalation, backed by Russian airstrikes, has considerably clamped down on militants so much that they preferred to be relocated to areas entirely under their control. This, according to analysts, will give the Syrian Army and its allied forces the advantage of limiting the number of battlefronts and eventually increase the intensity of multi-warfare attacks.

Syrian Army captures several farms in East Ghouta region of rural Damascus

On Monday evening, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade and the 416th Regiment of the Republican Guard – in close coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Damascus City – launched an assault on the eastern farms of Marj Al-Sultan, resulting in their subsequent entry into the small village of Al-Bilaliyah in the East Ghouta region of rural Damascus.

According to a military source based in rural Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s 102nd Brigade and the 416th Regiment are in full control of the western poultry farms in Al-Bilaliyah; however, there is still extensive fighting needed before they can declare the entire village under their complete control.

Recently, the Syrian Armed Forces’ Central Command has shifted their attention to the eastern and western flanks of Marj Al-Sultan; likely due to their need for building a substantial buffer-zone around the military airfields and the village itself.

ISIS terrorists backpedal in southwest Deir Ezzor as Syrian Army advances Al-Thayyem Oil Fields

Just 24 hours after repelling the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) counter-offensive at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport’s southeastern perimeter, the Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard – in close coordination with SAA’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division, the Shaytat Tribesmen, and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – resumed their assault on the Al-Thayyem Oil Fields, striking the terrorists at the northern wells near the Al-Thardeh Mountains on Friday afternoon.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 104th Airborne Birgade and their allies (specifically, the Shaytat Tribesmen) were able to recapture the northern wells of the Al-Thayyem Oil Fields after withdrawing from them on Thursday in order to counter ISIS’ large-scale assault on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport’s southeastern perimeter. According to a military source at the 137th Artillery Brigade’s headquarters in the Al-Thardeh Mountains, the Syrian Armed Forces are in the process of liberating the remaining wells at the Al-Thayyem Oil Fields; however, they are facing off against a large number of ISIS terrorists unwilling to yield any ground without a fight.

Meanwhile, northwest of the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade advanced along the International Highway that flows through Deir Ezzor (also known as the Damascus-Baghdad Highway), fighting their way westward in order to build on the buffer-zone around the provincial capital’s western flank.
