Two large pro-Turkish militant groups in the Syrian province of Idlib joined together: the National Liberation Front and the Free Syrian Army created a single military structure, which was called the Syrian National Army (SNA).

The new structure is subordinate to the opposition "interim government" in Gaziantep (Turkey). At the head of the SNA is the “Minister of Defense,” Salim Idris.

The militants of the Syrian National Army alliance have declared their readiness to send up to 14,000 fighters to the east of Syria to support the operation of the Turkish Army Source of Peace against Kurdish forces.

In their appeal, the militants emphasize that they will join the military operations of Turkey in order to restore peace in eastern Syria and create a safe zone for the return of refugees.

So it begun. Turkish air and artillery strikes have been hitting YPG positions mostly around Ras al Ayn, Tall Abyad but also on other places (some reports about bombing Mansoura dam near Raqqa as well). Two probing attacks of TFSA were reported to be repelled by SDF (one from the Turkish side of the border, one west of Manbij). So far no ground advance started, likely tomorrow morning.

Also al-Jolani is reportedly still alive and voiced his support to the Turkish operation (I don't understand it myself)...

Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the start of the operation of the Turkish Armed Forces in Syria.

According to Anadolu, Turkey’s operation in the areas of Syria east of the Euphrates River was called the “Spring of Peace”.
Earlier, the Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the plans of the Turkish side to begin a military operation against Kurdish organizations in the north-east of the SAR. Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani called on Ankara to reconsider its position on the start of the operation.
As stated on October 9 in the Kremlin, on the initiative of the Turkish side, a telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Erdogan. It was pointed out that in the light of Turkey’s plans for the operation, Putin called on the Turkish partners to "carefully weigh the situation so as not to damage the overall efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis."
At the same time, both leaders noted the importance of ensuring the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, respect for its sovereignty.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad noted that the Syrian authorities had long been telling the Kurds rushing under the star-striped guardianship: American support will sooner or later disappear. "Everyone who was not honest with his homeland and sold it for nothing will see that he will be thrown out of the bounds of history. We have warned many times about such conspiracies against the homeland and the Syrian people, they said that those who rush into the arms of foreigners will be thrown out they are far away and with disgust. It happened. The Kurds lost everything ... In the end, the homeland welcomes all its children. We want to solve all Syrian problems in a positive and non-violent way, but in such a way as to preserve the entire territory of Syria, " Mikdad.

Well, many representatives of the Kurdish elite expectedly change their shoes midair and turn their eyes to Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad. “Russia and Damascus should take responsibility for protecting our region from the Turkish attack, because it will also jeopardize Russia's interests. We hope that Russia will be able to play its role in resuming dialogue to resolve the Syrian crisis, and we are ready with this. The goal is to resume dialogue with Damascus. We have always recognized and believed in the importance of a serious dialogue with Damascus, and we will always be open to achieving this goal. Russia could play a role in this, and we believe that it will be extremely importantsignificance, "Kurdish activist Badran Jakurd told RIA Novosti.

Russia recognizes that the Kurds made a significant contribution to the fight against the “Islamic State" *. But the Kurdish leaders themselves made a further choice, and our paths diverged. The only chance for the Syrian Kurds is to surrender weapons to Syrian troops as soon as possible, repent to Damascus and abandon attacks on the integrity of Syria.

Putin doubts that Ankara can control the outcome of ISIS militants from northern Syria. Special services of the CIS countries must stop the threat of the spread of terrorists from Syria

Ashgabat. October 11. INTERFAX - Russian President Vladimir Putin is not sure that Turkey will be able to take control of the situation if ISIS captive militants flee to other territories.

"In the north of Syria, there are areas where ISIS militants are concentrated. They are still guarded by Kurdish military units. Now the Turkish army enters there, the Kurds are dropping these camps. They just can scatter," Putin said at a CIS summit in Ashgabat on Friday. "I'm not sure if the Turkish army can quickly take control of it," he added.
The President emphasized that in these zones, according to the General Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of Russia, there are hundreds of militants and "thousands, if we talk about the CIS countries." "We just need to understand this, know and mobilize the resources of our special services to stop this really emerging new threat," the president emphasized. He noted that many militants seek to create new strongholds in other regions.
"Having been defeated in Syria, many militants are redeployed to other regions, where they seek to create new strongholds - in the Balkans, in Southeast Asia and, of course, unfortunately for us, on the southern borders of the Commonwealth," - said in a transcript of Putin’s speech on CIS summit published on the Kremlin website.
Putin stressed that following the summit, a program of cooperation in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism for the next three years will be approved. "We believe that this is very important and this should mobilize our joint efforts to combat this threat," Putin said.
