  1. I think he means "carry in the tests", he moans about the A-10's not having a full loadout too
  2. If I were a tanker, I'd be most worried about throwing a track. They're meant to adjust the tension as they kneel, but losing a track as you back out of a firing position would be rather terminal I'm picturing a Big Hydraulic Turny Thing™ between the end of the bar and the hull, probably with a dog clutch or similar to lock it in position when you're driving. Dunno what has been used previously, but that looks like a elegant solution to me They already do, any gas is going to do thermodynamic things as the temperature changes FTFY
  3. The pensions thing counts for everyone, it's a standard NATO accounting method
  4. That's a goldmine. They've fallen hook line & sinker for the "flying tank" myth (remember, the same A-10 that was too squishy to be sent against iraqi forces in '91), but this is the best bit: Counterbattery fire will totally disrupt AA systems! There will totally be enough tanks running round the battlefield to keep every AA missile launcher distracted, but the troops still need air support before they're overrun!
  5. Tanks aren't the highest priority for the UK at the moment (heresy in an offshoot from the WoT forums, I know). Compare the cost of the upgrade to the cost of a single A-boat or T26, for example - heavy armour is pretty low down the pecking order of priority spending. Hell, a single T31e would fund a £1mil/tank upgrade across the fleet ... as opposed to? £3.5mil ea.? Cheaper? A new set of modern sights and a computer refresh will not cost that much, given the (probably) leo2a4 -> a7v upgrade is stated here as £1mil ea.
  6. The blond one has followed (Boris Johnson). None of them were remainers, this is just arch-brexiteers throwing a tantrum because we aren't burning bridges fast enough
  7. It's a very different design to the suspension on challenger: It looks like they're integrated the cylinder with the swingarm, which is a clever thing to do.
  8. So you develop a railgun shrapnel round, which won't need a major HE fill. More mass for the fragments (without a proper HE fill) means more area covered
  9. Disappointed that we've lost the chance for england vs russia at the world cup, that would have been a fun game
  10. That'll never happen, there's nowhere near enough spare manpower to sail her. Victory took more crew than the carrier does!
  11. Do you really need HE fill at railgun velocities? >2.9 km/s you're matching TNT for energy density in pure KE, and for a typical ~23% TNT mass in a whole artillery shell you only need to impact at 1.4 km/s to match the energy delivered
  12. Australia has chosen the BAE T26 design for their new frigates https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/theresa-may-hails-biggest-naval-defence-contract-for-a-decade-as-australia-picks-type-26-frigate/ Hopefully canada follows suit - it won't really help the UK economy at all (as the canadian and australian programs are local production), but it'd be neat to have a commonwealth user group for T26
  13. Oops https://ukdefencejournal.org.uk/video-pictures-german-frigate-significantly-damaged-during-missile-misfire/ No reports of injuries so far, which is good
  14. A conformal sonar array on a torpedo that stretches that far back on the nose is true fluid dynamics dark magic
  15. What's up with the weird magazine holder? Some way to show the weapon is clear (combined with the chamber flag) while still keeping rounds on hand if needed?
  16. I did not know the forum could embed twitch videos
  17. We could do with a tank ID thread, just like the good old days of HAV on the WoT forums
  18. Anyone want to see AI fail at playing sonic? Of course you do. https://blog.openai.com/first-retro-contest-retrospective/ Results are here: https://contest.openai.com/leaderboard Just click on any of the scores, and it'll take you to the mp4 of the run. The best AI had a reward function that motivated it to travel as far right as possible, and it shows (AIs at the bottom of the board really struggle with this, so it was a good idea)
  19. Cody Reeder has a good series of videos (going back 5 years) about his experiences keeping bees
