What do they get right, and what do they get wrong?

 

I checked out the South Front site.  Some very interesting claims they make.

FOr example they claim that village near Raastan was captured after serious fighting (25 killed militants), but photos from place and several journalists sayed that militants surrendered, photo shows SAA/NDF together with militants in this village, smiling and having food together.

In the last 72 hours, ISIS has recaptured both Al-Dawa and Al-Bayarat; these aforementioned villages were just captured by the Syrian Armed Forces two weeks.

As a result of this setback in the Palmyra countryside, the Syrian Armed Forces are no longer within 2km of the ancient city.

'Protect it's base'. Sure.  I'm sending one of the top attack helos in the world to Syria for base defense. Defending the base by scouring the countryside and eating any Jihadi asshole stupid enough to shoot at a Gunship with copious amounts of 30mm HE is more like it. And I'm ok with that.

Ka-52s are officially headed to Syria.

   Not officially and i really doubt that they will do. Zvezda TV already managed to "deploy" Ka-52s in Syria in October.

   I really don't see reason to do that, as Mi-24s can carry more unguided rocket pods, while Ka-52's ATGMs are still not ready and KK will complete first order for Vikhr missiles only in the mid 2016. So Ka-52 currently is just less-capable Mi-28 (Ataka ATGMs are working fine) or Mi-24/35.
