Islamist governor of Idlib killed as the Syrian Army and Hezbollah intensify operations in southern Aleppo

 

 

 

   On Thursday morning in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City, and Harakat Al-Nujaba – continued their powerful offensives to capture the strategic towns of Al-Barqoum, Khan Touman, and Al-Zorba from the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham, and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

 

   The Syrian Armed Forces and their allies began the assault on Thursday morning from their positions at the villages of Zeitan and Burnah, which are located west of Tal Al-‘Eiss; once they reached the towns of Al-Zorba, Khan Touman, and Al-Barqoum, they were confronted by a large force of Islamist rebels that were prepared for the imminent assault.

 

   According to a battlefield journalist embedded with the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies are attempting to enter the towns of Khan Touman, Al-Barqoum, and Al-Zorba as they receive covering fire from the Russian Air Force’s fighter jets that are pounding the Islamist rebel defenses.

 

   As a result of today’s assault, the Islamist governor of Idlib and prominent member of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham – “Abu ‘Abdel-Salaam” – was reportedly killed by Hezbollah during their relentless assault on the town of Al-Zorba.

 

   Abu ‘Abdel-Salaam was born in this Idlibi town of Binnish – he was a popular field commander of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham before being named the governor of Idlib.
