Breaking: Russian Su-24 black box data to be revealed on Monday

The black box of the Russian Su-24 war plane that was shot down by Turkey on November 24, is to be studied by experts from China and the UK, Liet. Gen, Sergei Dronov (Deputy Head of Russian Aerospace Forces) said during a media briefing on Friday.

The preliminary results of the study are to be revealed on Monday 21 December; the evidence is expected to be controversial as it sheds light on the incident that killed Russian pilot, Oleg Peshkov. Peshkov, who left behind a wife and two children, was shot down by Turkmen rebels whilst attempting to Parachute to safety.

“We do have proof that the Russian Su-24 did not violate Turkish air space”, Dronov added. This proof is corroborated by both Russian and Syrian defence officials by the use of radar and satellite recordings.

According to the commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Viktor Bondarev, the Turkish F-16 responsible for downing the Su-24 plane was in Syrian airspace when shooting it down.

“In line with air defense means objective control materials, the Turkish plane was in Syria’s airspace for 40 seconds and flew two kilometres inside its territory, wheras the Russian bomber did not violate the state border of Turkey”, Bondarev said.

The black box study results are expected to confirm Russia and Syria’s statements.

Syrian Army captures Jabal al-Sayyid in northern Latakia

On Thursday evening in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) – imposed full control over Jabal al-Sayyid after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

According to a military source embedded with the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade in northern Latakia, the Syrian Armed Forces captured Jabal al-Sayyid after killing over 20 enemy combatants from Jabhat al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army; this forced the aforementioned Islamist rebels to withdraw towards the northern mountainside of Jabal al-Turkmen.

With the capture of Jabal al-Sayyid, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies have captured several kilometers of territory in both Jabal al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains) and Jabal al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains) over the last 72 hours, resulting in a massive retreat for the Islamist rebels.

The firefights have already began this morning in both Jabal al-Turkmen and Jabal al-Akrad; these attacks at the aforementioned mountains in northern Latakia were led by the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party – fierce clashes reported near Jabal al-Zahiyah.

Syrian Army advances at 3 different fronts in northern Latakia

It is hard to determine what has been the Syrian Arab Army’s most successful offensive since the genesis of Russian airstrikes inside the country; however, one could argue that the  significant progress in southern Aleppo has given hope to the people of Aleppo City.

Then again, one might argue that the southern Aleppo offensive is mixed with Iraqi paramilitary units and Hezbollah, but the eastern Aleppo front is different, they are purely SAA and this same group lifted the 3 year long siege of the Kuweires Military Airport.

Regardless of preference, the most imperative offensive taking place in Syria is the northern Latakia offensive that is being conducted by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies from the National Defense Forces (NDF) and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP).

Why is this the most important offensive?

It is rather simple: the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard and their allies are advancing along 3 different fronts in northern Latakia and they are doing so in a very rapid, but efficient manner.

In a matter of 2 and a half months, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies have seized several kilometers of territory inside Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains) and Jabal Al-Akrad (Kurdish Mountains), while the Turkish-backed Islamist rebels retreat along several axes.

Yesterday, the Syrian Armed Forces imposed full control over Jabal Al-Nuba (Nuba Mountains); this strategic site was almost untouchable just three months ago and now, it is under the control of the Syrian state government.

In addition to their advance towards the Turkish border, the Syrian Armed Forces are pushing east along the Latakia-Turkish border after capturing Jabal Al-Zahiyah and large parts of the Firlalaq Forests in Jabal Al-Turkmen.

And lastly, the Latakia Governorate is the key to the Syrian government’s maritime shipping industry and the gateway to both the Idlib and Aleppo Governorate’s.

Without sealing Latakia, the strategic city of Jisr Al-Shughour in Idlib would be impregnable and a lost cause for the Syrian Armed Forces; but with the Latakia Governorate sealed off, they will be in prime position to launch an attack.

Breaking: Syrian Army, Hezbollah advance to the village of Abu Rayal in southern Aleppo

Moments ago in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City, and Harakat Al-Nujaba – advanced south of the Al-Arba’een Mountains (Jabal Al-Arba’een) to the village of Abu Rayal after a nonstop firefight with the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) overnight.

The village of Abu Rayal is situated at the southwestern flank of Jabal Al-Arba’een; it was also one of the main targets for the Russian airstrikes and the Syrian Arab Army’s artillery shells these last 72 hours in southern Aleppo.

Northwest of Abu Rayal, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and Hezbollah have continued their powerful offensive at the strategic towns of Al-Barqoum, Al-Zorba, and Khan Touman, where they were confronted by a large contingent of Islamist rebels that were predominately from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Nusra.

The Syrian Armed Forces and their allies have been targeting these aforementioned towns since last Saturday; however, the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra have been unwilling to yield any territory to the pro-government forces, despite the constant barrage of mortar shells and bombs that are dropped onto their positions.

Jabhat Al-Nusra Recaptures Jabal Al-Sayyid in Northern Latakia

Last night, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” – in cooperation with the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Coastal Brigade” – imposed full control over the Al-Sayyid Mountains (Jabal Al-Sayyid) in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside after a series of violent firefights with the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Latakia City.

Two nights ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard and their allies from the NDF and the SSNP seized this small mountaintop in the Al-Juba Mountains; this would give the pro-government forces complete control of this mountain at the southeastern perimeter of Jabal Al-Turkmen (Turkmen Mountains).

However, last night, the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army reentered and then recaptured the Al-Sayyid Mountains, resulting in the Syrian Armed Forces withdrawing to the southern perimeter of the Al-Nuba Mountains.

Despite claims by pro-Nusra social media activists, Jabal Al-Nuba has not been full recaptured by the Islamist rebels; this was prematurely reported by these social media activists after they captured the Al-Sayyid Mountains, which are located at the northern-end of Jabal Al-Nuba.

Clashes are still ongoing at this front; however, the Islamists have bigger worries at the moment, as the Syrian Armed Forces are expanding their control along the Turkish border.

Syrian Army approaches the gates of Palmyra as ISIS calls for reinforcements

On May 21st of this year, a dark cloud descended over the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra (Tadmur) after the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) raised the flag of Tawhid (ISIS’ flag) over the downtown municipal building, declaring victory over the Syrian Armed Forces that were protecting this historical gem in the deserts of the Homs Governorate.

For several months, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – primarily Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – have attempted to recapture this city from ISIS; however, they have repeatedly come up short, as the aforementioned terrorist group was able to withstand the onslaught.

With the disappointment of their last offensive hanging in balance, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade and the National Defense Forces have returned to this desert front in the Homs Governorate with a vengeance, capturing several sites around this historical city, while also pressing deeper into the Palmyra countryside than their previous assault in July.

On Saturday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67 Brigade and the National Defense Forces approached the “Qal’at Tadmur” (Palmyra Castle) after a violent battle with ISIS for several days; this latest advance left them within 400 meters of the castle and less than 2km away from the city’s gates.

While the Syrian Armed Forces approach the gates of Palmyra, they are forced to remain alert as ISIS has issued several warnings in regards to their intentions to demolish a number of archeological sites if the Syrian Army comes any further.

A final assault by the Syrian Armed Forces is in the works; however, the timing of this offensive is still unknown.

Last time they were 4 km away from city.

Syrian Army cuts the Islamists main supply route to the West Ghouta in rural Damascus

On Friday afternoon in the West Ghouta (collection of farms) of rural Damascus, the Syrian Arab Army’s 68th Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qatana – conducted a special military operation to cutoff the Islamists main supply route to the strategic city of Khan Al-Sheih from the latter’s last border-crossing into Lebanon.

This special military operation proved successful for the Syrian Armed Forces, as they successfully cutoff part of the Damascus-Quneitra Highway that connects with a number of seasonal roads, which ultimately leads to the Lebanese border at Jaroud Qarah; this aforementioned border-crossing is shared by the Islamist rebels and the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

According to a military source in Damascus City, the section of the Damascus-Quneitra Highway that the Syrian Army cutoff was in between the Damascene town of Sa’sa and Khan Al-Sheih.

Khan Al-Sheih is an imperative town in the Rif Dimashq Governorate that is located to the west of the Syrian capital; it is also the key to the Dara’a Triangle, which is currently one of the most volatile fronts in the Dara’a Governorate.

Looking at many photos from Aleppo and Latakia it seems that we are overlooking operation in Latakia and Iranians are leading Aleppo operations (at least on Western side of Aleppo province). Thats why i almost don't see Russian gear in use by soldiers and paramilitary members in/near Aleppo, while almost every photo from Latakia shows soldiers in Ratnik-related bodyarmor.

Iranians gathered plenty of forces near Aleppo, which is why some Iranian equipment can be seen in use like Safirs 4x4 with eother MLRS or 107 mm recoiless rifles. Iraqi paramilitary are going to Syria with their own gear and vehicles, it seems. Kataib Hezbollah brought their best unit, according to Yuri Lyamin, which is on par with normal army unit.

Operation near Kuweiris seems to be Syrian-only, conducted without noticeable help from either Iranians or us (except airsupport).
