This is a trend among all Sunni Fighters. Call your enemy Shia. I understand them calling the SAA Shia as Assad has an Alawite background and is backed by Iran and Hezbollah. I'd like to imagine that they are just conflating all their enemies under a single umbrella term of "Shia", but more likely they are idiotic sectarians.

Some Syrians claimed that they think that Putin is Shia.

Alawaites are Shia, in a highly technical sense.  They are, IIRC, an offshoot of the Twelver sect of Shia, which is the dominant sect of Shia Islam in Iran, except for some of the ass-backwards hard to get to parts in the north where Fiver (Zaydi) Shia caught on because it was too much of a pain in the ass to convert from Zoroastrianism when the Sunnis went through the first time.  Zaydi Shia is the dominant form in Yemen as well.

Because Shia Islam generally ascribes to esoteric, figurative interpretations of the Koran, their beliefs and practices are often quite different from those of Sunnis, and even from Shii of other sects.  For instance, many Shiites practice self-flagellation during Ashura:

Or that Israel is secretly Shia. The secret Iranian-Israeli alliance is just missing two SS from having the same acronym as ISIS.

They are saying that on their videos. One of first videos of Russian airstrike on "moderates" had a guy screaming that Russian-Iranian attacks on their holy asses was done by order from Israel. Later this video became a footage background for humorous video "butthurt snackbarrian" or something like that.

First aircraft lands at Kuweires Military Airport in 3 years

On Tuesday morning in the Aleppo Governorate, the first Syrian Arab Air Force helicopter landed at the Kuweires Military Airport for the first time in nearly three years, marking the remarkable return of this large airbase that was under a brutal siege just three months ago.

Syrian State Television was at the scene when the SAAF’s chopper landed at the Kuweires Military Airport yesterday morning – they provided the live footage of the military helicopter landing and taking off from one of the airbase’s airfields.

The SAAF helicopter was not only landing at the Kuweires Military Airport for a spectacle, but also, to deliver supplies to the soldiers that replaced the 300+ soldiers that endured a brutal 3 year long siege imposed by the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).

There have been rumors that the Russian Federation plans to make this into one of their military airports in Syria; however, the Russian Defense Minister and sources from the Syrian Air Defense both denied these claims.

The Russian Air Force has access to all of Syria’s operational airports, including the Al-Qamishli International Airport and the several large military airports in the Damascus countryside.

More flights should be conducted to the Kuweires Military Airport in the near future, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continues to advance in east Aleppo.

Hezbollah, Syrian Army envelope Al-Zorba in southern Aleppo

The Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and Hezbollah have been fixated on the strategic town of Al-Zorba these last few days, striking the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham, and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki at both the northern and eastern flanks.

On Tuesday morning in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forcrs (NDF) of Aleppo City, Hezbollah, and Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary) – continued their assault on Al-Zorba, killing several enemy combatants from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra before they were able swing around the northern flank in order to advance towards the western flank.

The reason for this military movement conducted by the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies is to spread the enemy combatants too thin in order to expose the most vulnerable parts of their defensive frontlines; this is what they originally did at the imperative town of Al-Hadher last month.

By doing this, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies appear to be encircling the enemy combatants; however, this is militaristic illusion forces the Islamist rebels to commit a large concentration of men to a certain flank, leaving the other flanks vulnerable to an attack by the pro-government forces.

Initially, several reports asserted that the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies had seized Al-Zorba; unfortunately, this news was prematurely reported, as all of Al-Masdar’s military sources denied these rumors.

John Kerry: No regime change in Syria

After talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry claimed that the United States are not seeking a regime change in Syria.

“The United States and its partners are not seeking regime change in Syria,” Kerry said in a news conference inside the Kremlin. He however emphasized that the U.S. believes President Assad cannot remain the leader of Syria in the future.

This statement however shows a change of outlook when in the years since 2011, the U.S. were adamant for the immediate removal of President Assad from power. They have been calling for this up until now.

“Despite the different positions of our countries, we have shown that Russia and the United States are moving in the same direction,” Kerry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the talks “substantive.”

“No one should be forced to choose between a dictator and being plagued by terrorists,” Kerry said. He stated that the Islamist rebel demands that Assad must leave immediately as a “nonstarting position, obviously.”

“The world is better off when Russia and the U.S. work together”, he added, calling Obama and Putin’s current cooperation a “sign of maturity.”

“There is no policy of the United States, per se, to isolate Russia,” Kerry stressed.

Syrian Army and Hezbollah launch massive assault in southern Aleppo

For the last three days in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s elite 4th Mechanized Division, Hezbollah and the Iraqi paramilitary group “Harakat Al-Nujaba” have been on the defensive against the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group), Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, and Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki.

However, this changed on Wednesday morning when Hezbollah and Harakat Al-Nujaba launched a massive counter-offensive from their positions at Burnah, Al-Zeitan, and Al-Qal’ajiyah in order to target the strategic towns of Al-Zorba, Khan Touman, and Al-Baraoum that are situated along the vast Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway).

Hezbollah and Harakat Al-Nujaba have already started this offensive, striking the southern axis of Khan Touman, while a brigade from the 4th Mechanized Division, the National Defense Forces (NDF), and Kataebat Al-Ba’ath (Al-Ba’ath Battalions) struck the towns of Al-Zorba and Al-Barqoum.

Currently, there have been no reported gains by any party involved in this offensive; however, preliminary reports confirm a large number of dead on both sides as they continue to fight for control of this volatile area in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside.

The main objective for this offensive is to cut-off the enemy’s main supply route along the Aleppo-Damascus Highway; if it is cut-off, the Islamists will be without a supply line from Idlib to Aleppo.

Breaking: Syrian Army captures Jabal Al-Nuba in northern Latakia as Islamists retreat towards Turkey

Moments ago in the Latakia Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muqawama Souri (Syrian Resistance) – imposed full control over the strategic Al-Nuba Mountains (Jabal Al-Nuba) after a week long battle with the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

Accoridng to a battlefield reporter with the SAA’s 103rd Brigade in northern Latakia, the Syrian Armed Forces captured all of the points along the Al-Nuba Mountains when Jabhat Al-Nusra’s frontlines became fractured; this forced the aforementioned Islamist group to retreat north in order to evade the swarming pro-government soldiers.

The Al-Nuba Mountains are located between the Turkmen (Jabal Al-Turkmen) and Kurdish (Jabal Al-Akrad) Mountains of northeastern Latakia; these aforementioned mountains have long been under the control of the Islamist rebels, especially the Turkmen Mountains that border Turkey.

The Syrian Armed Forces have made it evident that their massive Latakia offensive is primarily to seal off both the Idlib Governorate and Turkish borders with this province, leaving no entry for the Islamist rebels of Jabhat Al-Nusra and the Free Syrian Army.

Much of the success this morning in northern Latakia is due to the accurate airstrikes conducted by the Russian Air Force; these airstrikes have wrecked havoc on the Islamist rebel defenses.

Syrian Army Seizes Strategic Hilltop Overlooking Morek in Northern Hama

On Tuesday morning in the Hama Governorate’s northern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 87th Brigade of the 11th Tank Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces of Al-Sqaylabiyah and Mhardeh – imposed full control over the strategic hilltop of Tal Huwayr after a series of violent firefights with Jund Al-Aqsa (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) near the town of Morek.

According to a battlefield journalist with the National Defense Forces from Mhardeh, the Syrian Arab Army’s 87th Brigade and their allies advanced to Tal Huwayr after repelling Jund Al-Aqsa’s massive offensive along the Aleppo-Damascus Highway (M-5 Highway) over the weekend.

Since they repelled the Islamist rebels of Jund Al-Aqsa, the Syrian Arab Army’s 87th Brigade and their allies have recaptured all of their lost territory and even advanced their positions around Morek’s southeastern countryside; this has forced the Islamist rebels to reestablish their defensive front in order to prevent the pro-government forces from overrunning their southern flank.

Currently, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies are engaged in a fierce firefight with the Islamist rebels of Jund Al-Aqsa near the southeastern perimeter of Morek; this is the same flank that they recaptured the aforementioned from last year.
