I watch South Front every morning now.  I am 110% convinced that the channel is actually run by Russian propaganda/intelligence, but so far this has not been a compelling reason not to watch it.  So far as I can tell, Russian propaganda about Syria lies by omission, Western propaganda will just fucking flat lie to you about what's going on.

 

The US media response to the fall of Aleppo is interesting.  US mainstream news media are cowards and will basically re-tell the government line without any critical inquiry.  For instance they swallowed the line about Qaddafi issuing soldiers viagra so they could rape more people hook line and sinker.  They're still maintaining fictions about "moderate rebels," but they've basically given up the optimistic tone that US-led soft intervention and diplomacy could possibly salvage this mess.

 

It will also be interesting to see how the big asymmetric warfare think tanks in the US try to spin this.  The Syrian rebel groups are fighting a guerrilla campaign against the government.  So did the Russians send special forces, interpreters, spooks, money and cultural liasons in order to start a long campaign to undermine the support base of the rebels and win the hearts and minds of the populace?  No, they sent fucking bombers loaded with smart bombs and they had people on the ground tell them where to drop the smart bombs (troop formations, oil smuggling operations, supply caches) and then they coordinated with ground forces in fucking tanks to push up.  Then their ground forces cut off the enemy forces from resupply and contained the enemy forces in pockets just like they did in 1944.  Conventional, heavy-metal armies are stomping the shit out of lightweight unconventional guerrilla fighters that they are supposedly impotent against.  The fourth generation warfare crowd is going to have a hell of a time explaining that.  Naturally, they will smugly explain that this is perfectly in line with their theories and nothing needs re-thinking, please keep sending the checks and commissioning the studies.

 

VICE ain't what it used to be, but their assessment is more realistic.  The US and Gulf states are reacting now, and their new strategy looks a hell of a lot like escalation.

The difference is that the Russian Federation appears to care less about what do-gooder groups like Doctors Without Borders or Amnesty International or Code Pink thinks when a hospital, mosque or school is blown up.

   South Front looks like just bring together info from journalists/activist and twitter. They never reported anything more than what i can read in Hassan Ridha and Leith Fadel's twitter/The Arab Source. 

   Also, "guerrilla" forces usually don't have tanks, BMPs, MRAPs and APCs and existance of frontline indicates that this war is not insurgency or partizan type of warfare.

   Turkey and Saudis by their recent actions just showed to everybody that who is behind "opposition".
