I wouldn't be surprised if the Russians and Americans struck a deal about ensuring YPG gains, at least in the short run. 

Russians in Afrin and Americans in Eastern Rojava are a good deterrent towards Turkish aggression, if they aren't just being used as a staging ground for attacks around Idlib and Raqqa.
