   The Syrian army achieved three impressive victories. First, it cleared the territory inside and outside the ring of the Akerbat cauldron, and second, caught on the attack one of the last ISIS strike groups in the Euphrates valley and dealt a crushing defeat to it. Thirdly, it cleared the Lebanese-Syrian border from terrorists and thereby liberated considerable forces for further offensive operations.

   "Akerbat cauldron" is slowly getting smaller, number of ISIS members are in this area, they are getting hit by artillery and airstrikes.

 

   Meat grinder on the Euphrates

   Government forces were in a hurry, as a crisis situation arose in the area of the Euphrates river. Taking advantage of the transfer to the As-Sukhna area of the strike division of "Tigers", a few remaining elite parts of the ISIS were moved to the area north-west of Deir-ez-Zor, trying to retake the territories recently lost during the advancement of the SAA along the river.

   Their main task was to throw away parts of government troops from the Euphrates valley and restore contact with the Kurdish territory.
   The first blow (August 25, 2017) was strong and practically achieved its goal, if not for the stubborn resistance of the army in the area of the village of As-Sabka (1). It was here that the offensive impulse of ISIS crashed against the staunchness of the defending government troops. Although it was very expensive for them. On August 25, SAA lost up to 40 people killed

   The next day, regrouping its forces, IS again tried to attack this settlement, but the battle, which continued with varying success, did not lead to decisive results.

 

   The command of the Caliphate expected that, not having completed the liberation of the desert areas to the north of the town of As-Sukhn, the SAA could not do anything in this area and it still has a few days to win the battle that began in the Euphratus Valley.

   But they were wrong in the calculations, which cost them much. Having not yet completed the cleansing of the territories east of the Akerbat cauldron, the SAA began to transfer parts of the "tigers" division to the area to the south of Ganem-Ali (2.3) and this morning dealt a powerful blow to the IS attackers flank. The attempt to parry became a fatal error for IS. Their units on the nomination fell under the concentrated blow of aviation, artillery and the advancing tank and infantry units of the SAA and were literally destroyed in the oncoming battle. The surviving militants fled to the east. Thus, moving to the starting positions, which they occupied on August 24.
   The Russian command in Syria counted 800 only dead militants (official info from MoD). Also, according to their information, 13 tanks, 39 pick-ups with machine guns, nine artillery pieces and mortars were destroyed.
