Turkey wants to create a security zone in Syria near Turkish border.

Otaga member claims that they are covering Daesh zone, but not north-western part (Latakia). I found Azaz on the map, but not Jarablusa.

That Turkish "safe zone" is probably more tied to fighting the Kurds than it is ISIS.

Turkey is NATO at its best.

Massive Islamist Counter-Offensive in Southern Aleppo Fails

On Sunday morning in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Islamist rebels from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra”, and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sham launched a massive counter-offensive at the strategic towns of Khan Touman and Tal Al-‘Eiss in order to recapture the territory lost to the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah.

According to a military source with the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division, the Islamist rebel forces attacked the western flank of Tal Al-Eiss and the northern flank of Khan Touman, where they were confronted by several units from Hezbollah, the Syrian Armed Forces, and Harakat Al-Nujaba (Iraqi paramilitary) that were protecting their territorial gains from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Nusra.

Unfortunately for the Islamist rebels, the defenses of the Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance proved too difficult to bypass, as the several hundred reinforcements from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Nusra withdrew towards the Idlib Governorate after a seven hour battle in Tal Al-‘Eiss and Khan Touman.

With this failed assault in Tal Al-‘Eiss and Khan Touman, the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, Jabhat Al-Nusra, and Liwaa Al-Sham are in the same position that they were in before launching this large-scale inside the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside.

Breaking: Syrian Armed Forces Liberate Maheen in East Homs

Moments ago, a military source from the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) in Sadad reported to Al-Masdar News that the strategic town of Maheen in east Homs has been liberated from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) after an intense two day battle.

According to the military source in Sadad, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Sadad, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), and the Assyrian “Gozarto Protection Forces” (Sootooro) – overpowered ISIS’ last line of defense at Maheen, resulting in the town’s liberation.

With the recapture of Maheen, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and their allies have secured the Syriac Christian city of Sadad and they are within striking distance of the large Syriac Christian city of Quraytayn, which was captured during ISIS’ large-scale offensive in early August of this year.

Quraytayn will be the next target for this coalition of pro-government militias operating in east Homs; if they are able to recapture this aforementioned city in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside, they will be able to fight their way back towards the Tanf border-crossing into Iraq.

This will be no easy task, however; ISIS is deeply entrenched in the city of Quraytayn and their control over the highway that links ISIS’ primary supply line from Iraq to the Homs Governorate (via the Tanf border-crossing) also gives them this logistical advantage.

Syrian Army Seizes Jabal Zuwayk in Northern Latakia: Almost 200km Captured in 10 Days

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade of the Republican Guard is rolling in northern Latakia right now after seizing approximately 193km (13.9 square km) of territory from the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army’s “1st Coastal Brigade” and the Syrian Al-Qaeda group “Jabhat Al-Nusra” in just 10 days of battle.

On Sunday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Qurdaha, the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP), and Muwaqama Souri (Syrian Resistance) – imposed full control over the strategic mountains of Jabal Zuwayk and the village of Zuwayk after a series of intense firefights with Jabhat Al-Nusra and the 1st Coastal Brigade.

In addition to their capture of Jabal Zuwayk and Zuwayk village, the Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade and their allies advanced to the nearby town of Al-Shamisah that is situated to the north of the aforementioned mountains in northern Latakia.

The Syrian Arab Army’s 103rd Brigade’s end goal is to recapture the Turkish border-crossing into the Lataki Governorate, while another battalion seals off the Al-Ghaab Plains (Hama Governorate) and the strategic city of Jisr Al-Shughour (Idlib Governorate); this would create a protective wall along the vast Kurdish Mountains (Jabal Al-Akrad).

Two months ago, there was talk of the Islamist rebel forces launching a large-scale offensive in northeastern Latakia; however, the Syrian Arab Army’s recent success in this coastal province, coalesced with the Russian Air Force’s powerful airstrikes, have quelled this contingency and forced Jaysh Al-Fateh (Army of Conquest) to reconsider this military endeavor.

Syrian Army Captures the Al-Qadri Farms in West Palmyra: 4km to the City

The battle for Palmyra (Tadmur) has recently intensified over the last 5 days, as the Syrian Armed Forces attempt to retake this ancient city in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside after withdrawing from it on May 21st of this year.

On Sunday morning in the eastern Homs countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 550th Regiment and the 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, Kataeb Imam ‘Ali (Iraqi paramilitary), and the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Homs City – continued their large-scale assault towards Palmyra, striking the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) defenses at the Al-Qadri Farms near this ancient desert city.

With help from the Russian Air Force’s powerful fighter jets, the Syrian Armed Forces and their allies were able to impose full control over the Al-Qadri Farms; which was followed by an advance along the Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway to the ancient city of Palmyra’s western countryside.

According to a battlefield reporter that is entrenched with the SAA’s 550th Regiment, the Syrian Armed Forces are approximately 4km away from the western gates of Palmyra and they are 2km away from the Qatari Villa – he added that the soldiers can see Palmyra’s west district from the hilltop they are currently positioned at near the Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway.

In addition to their advance along the Homs-Deir Ezzor Highway, the Syrian Armed Forces were also able to take control of most of the Hayyan Mountains that border Palmyra from the southwestern flank – firefights are still ongoing at this rugged site in east Homs.

Jaafar Esper and Lt. Ghanem Khalil spoke about their experience there.

Meanwhile in Sweida, a reception was held in honor of pilot Col. Adham Abu Khair, with Abu Khair delivering a speech about how he and his colleagues persevered throughout the long siege they endured at the airport.

Sweida Governor Atef al-Naddaf, Secretary of al-Baath Party branch Ismael al-Hennawi, and Druze Shaykh al-Aql Yousef Jarbo’a delivered speeches in which they saluted the garrison and their resilience.

Jordan about to finish to train new forces for New #Syria'n Army. Dozens fighters to be sent in east-desert.

Hmm, i don't understand Jordan reasons and endgame to do that.

They claim that:

We wanted to take over Syria desert to open road to Deir_Ezzor. [...] but now, first objective is clearly Palmyra.

Syrian New Army fighters were landed at Tank oilfield in near Abu Kemal and clashed with ISIS for half an hour

Four USA helicopters provided covering fire for the operation

Sidenote, the "Template Unsafe Area (TUA)* " for cruise missiles is hilariously big. A TUA is basically an overlay for a map. Put the origin of the TUA over your firing position and 'aim' the TUA in your firing direction. Voila, you now know what area is dangerous to be in in case something goes wrong. For firearms it is more or less a cone in front of the weapon, with a template for the target area for shrapnel, ricochets, etc. Artillery includes an air corridor, making it 3 dimensional. The TUA for a missile is hilarious because it generally includes the area the missile can end up in case:

1. Guidance goes haywire;

2. You lose control;

3. Self destruction does not work.

In other words: The TUA of a missile is a dome with the absolute max range of your missile as a radius.

It is one of the reasons we do not do live fire training with our Patriots. Officially we'd have to evacuate half the country.

* The Dutch army calls it "Mal Onveilig Gebied (MOG)" which translates to "Template Unsafe Area". I do not know the official English term.
