Khand-e
Another neat presentation on finite element analysis as applied to cartridge case design. All of these courtesy of DE Watters, BTW. *As D.E. Watters looks on from the future crime scene where Miles V. has been killed with a prototype Ruger semi auto shotgun.* Good, Good..... *D.E. Watters then disappears back into the internet, leaving not a trace of his existence.*
Bronezhilet
Can somebody explain to my why the fuck everybody is jerking off over 6.5 mm? I won't take No for an answer.

Toxn
Can somebody explain to my why the fuck everybody is jerking off over 6.5 mm? I won't take No for an answer. For the same reason that people think a range between two extremes must represent an 'optimum' value. Edit: an alternate theory is that people want to be size whores but think they're too classy for 7.62x54mmR and the like. An alternate-alternate theory is that they are size whores but have actually shot .308 and have enough imagination to realise that full auto would be like humping a jackhammer. Collimatrix
Can somebody explain to my why the fuck everybody is jerking off over 6.5 mm? I won't take No for an answer. Such as there is experimentation with cartridge design, it's mostly done in garages with commercially available reloading equipment. This is a time-honored art of gun hotrodding ("wildcatting"), but there are some limitations. Any new cartridges have to be based on existing case heads. Necking down an existing cartridge is easy. Blowing it out is a bit trickier, but still doable. Shortening it is easy. Lengthening it, not so much. But bullet selection will be limited to pre-existing designs, and 6.5mm is a good choice because there are a lot of low-drag bullets available for that caliber. Other than that, there's nothing intrinsically better about it. It's just a damned number.
Sturgeon
*As D.E. Watters looks on from the future crime scene where Miles V. has been killed with a prototype Ruger semi auto shotgun.* Good, Good..... *D.E. Watters then disappears back into the internet, leaving not a trace of his existence.* The fat one was properly misinformed and led away from the truth that could not be made public. The Marine was driven to disgrace, discredited as a hack and a thief. The Agent smiled; the secrets of modern small arms and their alien origins were safe. After all, how could it be a coincidence that the AR-15's first prototype was created exactly ten years after the Roswell incident, and then for the next six decades no other man-made weapons could touch its performance? It was a secret that could destroy the social order, but thanks to a series of lies that the Agent spread through major news outlets and gun forums and comments sections that the AR-15 was unreliable and ineffective (absurd, of course, no alien-made device ever failed to kill when called upon), the fabric of society was protected. The Agent put the documents supporting the D.E. Watters identity into the steel drum, doused them with gas, and dropped a lit match in. Doctor Fackler never knew how close he came to the truth. Of course Watters never existed, he was a dummy identity created to protect the Agent. Only the Agent's quick thinking diverted Fackler away from his inquiry into the math department of the supposed alma mater of the Watters persona, but Fackler still suspected... Now, though, it was time for the Agent to disappear once again, to return whenever in the near or distance future he was needed... And the biggest trick of all, to get Fackler's followers and the general public alike to believe he simply died of "natural causes." Donward
Apparently it is 1980s Retro Gun Debate Day at TFB. Should you carry your 1911 in Condition One, Condition Two or Condition Three? What do YOU think? http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/05/09/firearms-food-for-thought-conditions-of-readiness/ To be fair, there are actually 13 as opposed to 3 paragraphs. Meplat
I laughed. The arfcom term of "LEGOs for adults" fits very well with ar-15's. Basically, if you're not making chips, you're "assembling" not "making". Sturgeon
D.E. Watters
Alas, for the purposes of the BATFE and State Department licensing, even assembly can be considered manufacturing.

A loaded, chambered striker fired design is condition zero, not this condition one shit presented. It's like a bit ago when colli was sperging about how striker fired designs are basically single action because the amount of outside force needed to work the striker mechanism is so small it's basically non existent. Well the same is true regarding any semantics someone wants to play with the trigger safety damnit!.
