Tied
To be fair, i cant fault any nation that uses GLORIOUS 3 OF BMP too badly But ya, even fucking Iran would rather have a reverse engineered bull-pup M16 than keep using G-3s
Brick Fight
Keep in mind, the Ethiopians had SEVERAL of these fearsome weapons. Still my favorite shitpost on the WoT Forums.

Sturgeon
Well gee Its almost like 5.56 and other smaller Assault Rifle cartridges are designed for combat under 300 meters becuase thats the range that most combat toke place in during a little known conflict known as the 2nd world war, and that many nations based on said experience in that narrow field of operations that included North Africa to Stalingrad to Manchuria decided that it was best to trade a heavier round for more recoil management and full/semi auto fire below 300 meters The bigger caliber crowd seems to often conveniently forget that heavier weapons like mortars are available at low levels of organization. I think there's an argument to be made that those may not be integrated or used to their full potential, but the idea that you're going to do the job of a tripod mounted MG or mortar team with a single dude and a carbine is just laughable. 5.56mm has a lot of sub-optimal characteristics, but it's a very good round for the job it's doing. Donward
Most of the instances of the 5.56 failing stem from bigger problems involving military decisions at a political level coupled with mistakes at the unit level. IMO
Sturgeon
A PSA about museum gloves for people handling rare or valuable objects. Apparently, cotton is out, nitrile is in.
Sturgeon
So I just learned that my Remington 51 is in considerably better condition than the one on display at the National Firearms Museum. And it's in .32, not .380.
Toxn
Nitrile is a bit harder to put on than latex, so we tried to reserve it for people with allergies and dealing with EtBr (which goes through latex). Double-gloving ftw btw.
Belesarius
Given the thread title, we should definitely have a link to LRIII in the thread. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/08/30/improving-the-deadliest-rifle-in-the-world-the-m1e-series-light-rifle-part-iii/
Sturgeon
Yeah, especially since now the threat title makes actual sense.

Sturgeon
Just got the supplies to make a light box. Expect (hopefully) good photos of the Remington 51 for POTD on Tuesday, as well as a lineup of PDW cartridges for Monday.
Meplat
Cold. Dead. Hands. Now, if the NFM comes knocking and they want to display it, then I would lend it to them. Be very careful loaning anything (let alone a firearm) to any museum, lest it become theirs. I lost a bunch of models and some Japanese militaria to a "museum" in Michigan back in the 80's. Collimatrix
A cross-sectional view of the FAMAS action. This always looked to me like it would be very easy to cheaply mass-manufacture.

Nah, if he did the rifle would be stripped of all non steel metal parts to be sold at the nearest scrapyard.

Toxn
Those are for hunting unicorns and narwhals. That or for the explicit purpose of making "he's screwed now" one liners. They look like they might actually be too long for spin stabilization to be a thing. Do you think Bubba thought far enough to ream out the barrel with his dremel when dreaming up this contraption?
