It is not current for a long time.

I meant in the latest pictures you posted. Back when Kurganets was first unveiled it had that arrangement but then in other TV shows about the vehicle, other preproduction variants had the driver sitting in front and left of the commander (with the engine by his right), and now again the driver and commander appear to be sitting side by side...its a little confusing to be honest,

Parade versions of Kurganets-25, from 2015.

In the same time (later in 2015) there was this version shown.

Parade vehicles had different engine mounted because of time constraits. Version shown on prooving ground is one that Army is interested in.

News about Armata. Translation of this article:

Most interesting parts are Victor Murakhovksiy comments. Journalists crap is spread across whole article here and there, sadly (like Armata using Krasnopol laser guided artillery rounds), i will try to throw it away.

MOSCOW, Jul 1 - RIA Novosti, Nikolai Protopopov. Fully autonomous system of target designation and firing, smart protection from shells and an ideal engine - the designers brought the T-14 tank on the Armata platform to perfection. The corporation Uralvagonzavod said that the new vehicles has been fully studied and all the shortcomings have been eliminated. About what difficulties the developers faced, - in the material of RIA Novosti.

   Children's sores
The promising main battle tank T-14 Armata has been developed since 2010, and in production since 2014. The latest achievements of the Russian defense industry have been used in the design of the combat vehicle, most of which are being tested on existing models for the first time.
In fact, Armata is an armored combat computer, stuffed with electronics and autonomous systems - many functions are fully automated and require only control from the crew.
For example, the Afganit active defense system itself detects and destroys anti-tank ammunition as it approaches, at a safe distance. The complex system includes a pulse-Doppler radar, ultraviolet direction sensors and infrared cameras of all-round visibility.

"Afghanit" pinpoints any threat - anti-tank missiles are jammed by electronic warfare [i guess ATGMs like Bill 2 or TOW-2B], anti-tank missiles with infrared homing heads are countered with a smokemetal "curtain", and ammunition that still managed to break through to the tank is destroyed by special fragmentation charges.

“There were no serious technical problems with Armata as such,” Viktor Murakhovsky, member of the expert council at the military-industrial complex collegium, tells RIA Novosti. “But some questions nevertheless arose. In particular, with the engine. It developed the necessary power, but its resource did not meet the requirements The Ministry of Defense. Therefore, for the first time, the tank had to be operated in sparing modes. "

Now all problems with the power plant are resolved. The engine has two modes of operation - peacetime, when the resource is very important, and military/combat - on the battlefield, priority is given to maximum power and speed.
Engine power - from 1.2 thousand to 1.8 thousand horsepower. Torque is regulated by an automatic transmission. The tank accelerates to 90 kilometers per hour and can go without refueling about five hundred kilometers. The on-board computer completely controls the engine and transmission, informing the crew about the problems and reminding them of the need for maintenance of a particular unit.

The tests revealed some flaws with the fire control system (FCS), which is noticeably different from its predecessors. In particular, because of the software. Operating with a variety of parameters, the FCS is one of the most complex systems in the tank.
The gun and machine guns "Armata" are aimed automatically. The ballistic computer performs the necessary calculations, the tank determines its position by satellite and inertial navigation system, the computer determines the angular orientation in space, takes into account the direction and speed of the wind, temperature, air humidity and even barrel bending when heated.

“As for fire control systems, this is a known problem,” Murakhovsky notes. “Thermal imaging arrays with the right parameters have never been produced in Russia. It's no secret that thermal imaging sights for tanks were purchased in France. To start such production out of the blue , it took some time. "
During the tests, the developers and the military had questions for the "Armata" ammunition. "The ammunition was actually created anew, and not everything worked out right away," the expert continues. "Of course, there were working difficulties that were inevitable when creating the latest military equipment."

“Armata” was tested and tested relatively quickly partly due to the fact that many design solutions were borrowed from the experimental tank “Object-195”, which was already worked on in the Ural Transport Engineering Design Bureau in the 1990s.
“If not for Object-195, Armata would still be only on paper or, perhaps, in one prototype,” Murakhovsky believes.

“Armata” is a new generation tank, the only such vehicle in the world with a fundamentally new layout, ”Murakhovsky emphasizes. - There are no analogues in the world. The entire fire control, reconnaissance and surveillance system is only the technical channels of view, there are no direct optical channels for reconnaissance, target designation and firing. I am sure that everyone in the tank industry will follow this path. We are the first here, like "icebreaker", pushing through all the problems. "

So in short - looks like UVZ implemented changes and fixes to problems found during testing of the vehicle. Engine sounds like received some changes as well and now have 2 modes of operation. New Russian-made thermal imagers were put into production for Armata. Ammunition for main gun sounds like was also brought to serial-production stage (or ready to be produced).

Interesting the bit about the specific ammunition made anew. I guess that can only point to the ´Vacuum´ apfsds. On the other hand the description the author gives about the ATGM also points to what we know about Sokol-V, but the journalist calls it "Reflex-M"

ON the other hand, what does Murakhovsky mean by " The entire fire control, reconnaissance and surveillance system is only the technical channels of view, there are no direct optical channels for reconnaissance, target designation and firing" ?

It means that they are no direct optical sights like on previous tanks.
