This is a very interesting pic...one of these two captured Megach 3s (shown in Syria in 1982 with Russian advisors), is very likely the "key" tank that was captured by the Syrians and paraded through Damascus. It became the focus of Israeli POW/MIA organizations since the missing Israeli crew was unaccounted for. There were even rumors (which the Russian government has strongly denied), that crew remains and personal belongings were still on-board when the Syrian government provided the tank to the Russia. The tank was on display at Kubinka for many years until June 2016 when it was finally exchanged for a different less meaningful Megach 3 after an official ceremony at Kubinka. Regarding the presence of composite armor in the hull of the Mk. 3 (the production Block is not specified) :

In real life, there are only 4 rounds (in their fireproof canisters) between the turret basket and the engine bulkhead.

 

The number of rounds carried in the aft compartment is also incorrect :

With the first batches, yes. But it was found dangerous. The fuel transmit the shock wave. So, the bottom was emptied.

I know there is a self sealing vave but I didn’t know this detail.

No, definitely a 1 or 2.

The merkava 3, 4, and Namer have individual swing arms, the mounts for which are these large bases built into the hull side. The lack of such mounts means it must be a Merk 1 or 2, where the arms are attached to the bogies which are mounted to the hull.

This is a Namer hull, but the idea is the same. There are a few pics of merkava 3s with the swing arm ripped off where you can see it more clearly but my Google fu is weak.

In the pic posted earlier there's no sign of these swing arm hub bases.

Hi Wiedzmin,

 

Both the Merk 3 and Merk 4 have rolling programmes to upgrade armour packages. A process assisted by the modular nature of the armour. The Israelis have the technical and scientific capability  to frequently improve and match the armour to current threats. However, their financial and industrial capacity to introduce upgrades, on a large scale, is relatively limited.  In the case of the Merkava improvements are introduced regularly, but on small batches at a time. Thus even in a battalion of Merkavas, there can be tanks with upgraded modular armour of different generations.

Simply not possible, the whole rear section of the hull is different, as are the hull sides.

By the look of things, at some point in Merk 3 production they switched from the rounded, presumably cast hull nose to the sharp, presumably welded one.

I don't recall seeing any pictures of Ramaqh Mk3 with a sharp hull but there are Baz Mk3s with either.
