what could be, in your expert judgment, the survivability of a Merkava 4 (with Trophy) against top-attack ATGMs or PGMs (like the one we are witnessing in Ukraine?

Trophy has top defense capability so could intercept a Javelin and likes ,but aside from tanks with active defense western tanks would burn just the same as Russian ones , an only one that wouldn't blow the turret is M1 as its the only one with all ammo separated and protected from crew compartment.

The Trophy brochure available online mentions "significant" elevation angles.

How close to vertical "significant" means is anybody's guess.

There's nothing kinematically preventing missiles like Javelin from diving vertically (other than perhaps a reduction in range), and it may even be a software-defined parameter, so it's not exactly a question answerable by open sources.

Also note that the radar arrangement of Trophy results on a blind spot above the tank.

Javelin actually dropping down onto a target many other missiles just have top attack warheads but only fly 1-1.5 meter above the target so are susceptible to many hard kill systems even those without much of an angular capability..

so, to date, there are no sufficiently valid systems to protect AFVs from top attacks (both ATGMs and PGMs)?

 

Another question: do systems like the Trophy have 'cooperative' capabilities, to defend other nearby vehicles?
